American Indians use the Tower as a place of
worship. Most of the ceremonies that take place are
small groups or individuals, who have gathered for
prayer, pipe ceremonies, the tying of prayer cloths, or
vision quests. Group rituals also continue here,
including sweat lodge and sun dance ceremonies.
Devils Tower National Monument issues special use
permits for these observances. The ceremonies that
take place here require quiet and solitude

Parked for many years in dimly-lit corner of Cape Town's station complex.

This one I took for the vanishing point.
If it intrigues you . . . Google "red devil locomotive" . . . some amazing images of her roaring along SA railways under a full head of steam and billowing smoke . . . wished I'd taken those!
This is one of my favourite watch and kind of grial in a way. The sought after Caravelle Sea Hunter, also known as devils diver as is 666 ft water resistant. Well, was. This one has been in the Vietnam war and is now 50 years old. Needs some fixing but it's so beautiful with the Tudor Ranger numerals and classic Explorer layout. Images registerd in www.safecreative.org. Caravelle is the affordable brand of Bulova.

This model is such a classic, I had to get around to folding it eventually. Very easy to fold, I must try something harder. Kami wasn't the best choice, but I didn't feel like using something better.
Folded out of an uncut square of 10" kami.
Livingstone Island, Zambia
Devil's Pool is adjacent to the famous Livingstone Island situated on the edge of the Victoria Falls.
During the drier months of the year, May to October, it is possible to walk along the lip of the falls. This can only be done from the Zambian side. After thousands of years of erosion, many rock pools have formed and one of them has formed right on the very edge of the sheer drop.
Over 500 million litres of water a minute cascade over the almost 2km wide falls, causing a deafening and spectacular explosion of spray which can be seen 30 miles away. This is why it is known locally as Mosi-oa-Tunya, or The Smoke that Thunders.
You can find guides who will take you on the Zambian side, at the entrance to the Falls.
Showing a cluster of fruits (known as drupes) on a devil's club plant near Seward, Alaska.
According to Wikipedia, devil's club or devil's walking stick (Oplopanax horridus) is a large understory shrub endemic to the arboreal rainforests of the Pacific Northwest, but also disjunct on islands in Lake Superior. It is noted for its large palmate leaves and erect, woody stems covered in noxious and irritating spines [visible here]…The plant has also been used ceremonially by the Tlingit and Haida people of Southeast Alaska. A piece of Devil's club hung over a doorway is said to ward off evil.
it's halloween and this year seems to be a real party year...there were TONS of folks dressed up this year...
so today i went to the GW (is there a day that i don't?)....in the GOODWILL at VAN NESS & MISSION there was a guy in a GORILLA COSTUME browsing the asiles...The security guard was even amazed. "Both of you have the Halloween spirit. The gorilla, and your SECURITY COSTUME are the best!" He laughed, though kept his eyes on the gorilla. (they must have slippery hands...)
Walking by OPERA PLAZA on VAN NESS , a sexy SUPER GIRL with cape & full costume walked by ADDA who asked, "Wouldn't it be easier to 'leap the buildings in a single bound'?
"Too early. Need my PEET'S COFFEE first! ", she smiled.
Inside PEET's the counter Vampire had the complete blacked out eye contacts which were chillingly scary, as was his perfectly fitted vampire fangs..."Cup of Drac, Red , no scream please! " I asked. He chuckled and bared his Vampire suckers!
Then in came a guy in complete black suit, white shirt & black tie with a black bowler hat. ADDA exclaimed, "Wow! Great Charlie Chaplin costume." He tipped his hat and said with a smile, "Oh. I dress like this everyday!"
Behind him was a woman in a 'fat lady in a pink bikini costume' attracted lots of attention mainly because she was the size of a VW Beetle! She was bombarded with praise and when asked if she was hot in her MACY'S parade ballon-type costume. "No, It has a fan inside which keeps the costume inflated & me cool !"
After the fun time at PEET'S COFFEE, ADDA took the bus where there was a teenager on the 38 Geary bus in a 'box carton' decorated as a 38 GEARY BUS!!!! He took up alot of room, but I think everyone appreciated the joke and made room for him. Further down the asile was a guy in full STAR WARS stormtrooper uniform & helmet ...he was checking his text messages from planet GEORGELUCAS, no doupt.
I got off the bus to mail some letters at the Geary/20th Avenue Post Office only to be greeted at the counter by an employee of the Moulin Rouge. Full on glitterly rhinestoned costume, head-dress, & mask...Absolutely beautiful!
Then it was onward home on the bus along with person in a complete yellow body costume as PIKACHU, a space alien, several cats, and elf. There were several little kids hitting the houses for their treats...pink princess, count dracula, Tinkerbell, & little leopard. In all, just a typical day in San Francisco actually...
Happy halloween everyone
