Telstra to launch Australia’s first commercial 4G/LTE device
Businesses in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane will be the first to experience 4G/LTE mobile broadband after Telstra announced it would commence selling Australia’s first commercial LTE device later this month.

Fireworks are a class of explosive pyrotechnic devices used for aesthetic, cultural, and religious purposes. A fireworks event (also called a fireworks show or pyrotechnics) is a display of the effects produced by firework devices. Fireworks competitions are also regularly held at a number of places. Fireworks take many forms to produce the four primary effects: noise, light, smoke and floating materials (confetti for example.) They may be designed to burn with flames and sparks of many colors, typically red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple, silver and gold. Displays are common throughout the world and are the focal point of many cultural and religious[1] celebrations.
The earliest documentation of fireworks dates back to 7th century China, where they were invented. The fireworks were used to accompany many festivities. It is a part of the culture of China and had its origin there; eventually it spread to other cultures and societies.[2] Important events and festivities such as the Spring Festival (Chinese New Year) and the Mid-Autumn Festival were and still are times when fireworks are guaranteed sights. China is the largest manufacturer and exporter of fireworks in the world.[3]
Fireworks are generally classified as to where they perform, either as a ground or aerial firework. In the latter case they may provide their own propulsion (skyrocket) or be shot into the air by a mortar (aerial shell). The most common feature of fireworks is a paper or pasteboard tube or casing filled with the combustible material, often pyrotechnic stars. A number of these tubes or cases are often combined so as to make, when kindled, a great variety of sparkling shapes, often variously colored. The skyrocket is a common form of firework, although the first skyrockets were used in war. Such rocket technology has also been used for the delivery of mail by rocket and is used as propulsion for most model rockets. The aerial shell is the backbone of today's commercial aerial display. A smaller version for consumer use is known as the festival ball in the United States. The Atiz is a book digitization device used to photograph some suitable rare books. The book is held within a cradle and two digital SLRs, mounted at 45 degrees above, capture each page separately.
During a recent exploration to Kepler22b, an exoplanet from the Kepler-16 binary star system, Boris Chimp 504 found some metallic objects on its surface. Though the origin of these objects are totally unknown, it's probably a piece of technology from an extraterrestrial civilization. Boris has sent these objects in an hyperspace capsule to the Vladivostok Space Center, on Earth.
It is believed that it's a part of a machine, a mechanism or a device of some kind. Recent investigations on the objects lead to believe that it is an interface to control the position and orientation in space and time of something bigger, a spaceship maybe.
These objects are being presented in a series of interactive installations called "Non Human Device".

This is a photograph from the Forest Marathon festival 2013 which was held in the beautiful Coillte forest of Portumna in Co. Galway, Ireland on Saturday 15th June 2013. The event includes a 10k, a full marathon, a half marathon and two ultra-running events - a 50k and 100k race. The races started at 08:00 with the 100KM, the 50KM at 10:00, and subsequent races at two hour intervals onwards. All events started and finished within the forest with the exception of the half marathon and marathon which started outside of the forest. All events see participants complete 5KM loops of the forest which start and end at the car-park/amenity end of the forest. There is an official Refreshment/Handling Zones at this point on the loop.
The event was organised by international coach Sebastien Locteau from SportsIreland.ie and his fantastic team of volunteers from Galway and beyond. Congratulations to Seb on organising a very professionally run event and an event which is growing bigger and more prestigious with each passing year. There was an incredible atmosphere amongst the runners, the spectators, and the organisers. Hats off to everyone involved.
The marathon, 50KM, and 100KM events are sanctioned by Athletics Ireland and AIMS (the Association of International Marathons and Distance Races). The event has also achieved IAU (International Association of Ultrarunners) Bronze Label status for 2013.

Overall Race Summary
Participants: Approximately 600 people took part across all of the events which were staged: 10km, half marathon, marathon, 50km, and 100KM.
Weather: The weather was unfortunately not what a summer's day in June should be like - there was rain, some breeze, but mild temperatures.
Course: This is a fast flat course depending on your event. The course is left handed around the Forest and roughly looks like a figure of 8 in terms of routing.

Refreshments: There are no specific refreshments but the race organizers provide very adequate supplies for all participants.

A U.S. Army Soldier with the 253rd Transportation Company, New Jersey Army National Guard, fires an M240B machine gun during the Company’s annual evaluation at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, N.J., April 8, 2019. The Cape May-based Soldiers were evaluated by 1st Army Soldiers from the 1-315th Brigade Support Battalion, 174th Infantry Brigade, on numerous combat tasks including reacting to a chemical threat and improvised explosive devices, evacuating casualties while under fire, and recovering disabled vehicles. This is a photograph from the first round of the Mullingar Road League which was held in Belvedere House and Gardens, Mullingar, Co. Westmeath, Ireland on Wednesday 7th May 2014 at 20:00. The race follows the roads and trails around Belvedere and is a very testing 5KM route. The race is promoted by Mullingar Harriers for the Pat Finnerty Memorial Cup. Competitors need to run 3 races out of the 4 races in May (any order) to be considered in the overall placing in categories at the conclusion of the league. Over 350 people took part in tonight's event. The weather was positively wintry with a very cold wind in the face of runners for the 1KM and the final KM of the race.

This device converts the serial signal from the Spektrum receiver into a classic PPM (Pulse-Pause-Signal, aka "Sum signal") that will be fed into one of the digital input pins of the ArduIMU+. Purchased from 1hoch4).
One of my oldest flashes. This unit is a pre-digital device, so the trigger voltage is expected to be high. I've never measured it, so I purchased a Wein Safe Sync device to protect my camera. Unfortunately, the combo of that Wein device and this flash did not cooperate with my camera and I was unable to use them together. So this was put into my box of old gear.
Enter the Cactus triggers and I've brought out this flash again as something to use! I'm really happy that I can put this flash to work again.
It's a really basic thyristor-based automatic flash. I would need to do some testing to fully understand the functions as I believe that the slide positions are essentially controls for how much reflected light gets to the thyristor. Thus, in the red setting, the largest amount of light is allowed. This setting is intended to allow the flash to operate properly at a longer distance. The range at which the flash should work in an automatic mode in the red mode is 6 feet to 40 feet, given aperture setting of f2 at the max range. In the blue mode, the thyristor is allowed less light and thus the flash will fire for a longer time to get more reflected light. The automatic mode distance for the blue setting is 3 feet to 20 feet with a given aperture of f4 at the max range. I'm still confused about what happens in the overlap between the two settings and their appropriate distances. Manual setting does not allow any light to the thyristor, so it's always a full discharge. There is a scale on the back of the flash that is set for the ISO and distance to give the appropriate f stop to use on the camera.
Recycle times can be very fast given a close subject, settings, and battery conditions and it can nearly keep up with my K10D when shooting Raw + JPG. Lastly, I've read that these flashes tend to have a slow drain when not in use, so it's always a good idea to remove the batteries when storing them.
Taken with the Pentax K10D camera using the smc P-DA* 16-50mm F2.8 ED/AL (IF) SDM lens. AF540FGZ flash was fired PTTL on the body with a diffuser bounced against the wall. PP with PPL4 to set white balance.

I needed to make a blocking device so that the X-V Selector Lever could not be moved. I wanted something in a T shape, but lacking anything around here that would fit in the space, I went with the next best thing.
The shape of this plastic can lid, with it's ridges to make it snap tight, was almost the perfect thing. And its circular shape meant it would somewhat match the contour of the shutter/lens assembly mount.
This is one very well made representation of Skyrider by Bandai in 2012. 6.1 inches tall. It comes with a bunch of accessories and a stand for various poses including the famous “Sailing Jump”. When comparing this to www.flickr.com/photos/51940189@N04/4960509402/in/photostr... we can see that our toys came a long way. By the way, Skyrider is a moth unlike his other Kamen brothers who are grasshoppers. That is why he can fly (though with the help of the anti-gravity device).
Souvenir from the Museum of Questionable Medical Devices in Minneapolis, MN. This museum no longer exists as of 2001, and some of the devices ended up in the Science Museum in St. Paul, MN.

We stayed in Hinton for over a month, working some old CNR spur lines that went north and south, basically coal mine country...
My start this spring was an inventory job. I was to work alone and push a pedometer wheel measurement device to get the mileages of landmarks, Culverts and all rail information at each rail joint. Rails have composite information such as chrome moly, Iron alloy’s, carbon-- basically metallurgical products that give it strength, plasticity and hardness. The rails were stamped on the web near the joint and listed the types of metals with the compounds and date stamp that I recorded in a waterproof wax type papered note book with a mechanical pencil. This info will give the Engineering dept. the stats to retire the old rail and/or put the new continuous type of rail in place -no more clickety clack as per se. I was to walk the whole distance from Brule Alta to Grande Cache Alta, approximately 155 Kms. CN’s Spur line to Grande Cache was south and west of Highway 40 but rarely crossed the highway, it came close enough on occasion, so I could get my work mates to drop me off or retrieve me at the end of day. In a lot of cases, I would have to double back to my starting point to get picked up making double the walking distance. Finally, I arranged some help with the local Roadmaster and for the non railway types, he is a maintenance official in charge of a division of track from 50 to 150 miles of roadway. He had a Hi-rail truck, a truck equipped with retractable rail wheels, allowing him to operate on both roads and railway tracks. All I had to do was radio him at the end of day and he would come and get me.
I’m not sure why my partners thought there was going to be an argument on who would do this job? I nominated myself immediately. I enjoy simple work details and the idea of walking through a park. “Willmore Wilderness”! sounded grand and in my mind I will have a break from participating in the all-too-common cross section track work that we did on the daily. I donned my old survey vest everyday loading it with food, bear spray and rain gear. I couldn’t carry a pistol but flares and bangers were our standard. Mining exploration will grant you pistol carrying privileges with a free miner’s license but not in this instance. I did see black bear everyday at distance with scat on the tracks but usually felt safe as it was open country and we weren’t going to meet in close quarters. This is Caribou country too! and back then the herd was huge. Now they are endangered beasts, as their habitat in Alberta would be overwhelmed by oil and gas exploration and probably the continuation of coal mining that was happening a bit then and will get a go ahead soon in 2025. I never did see Caribou in my walkabouts but did see the huge turned-up mud trails from their hooves while migrating. I think they move in the spring and fall, sometimes only to get hit by car on Highway 40 or by Train on this spur line, over all, they were plentiful beasts not many years ago.
My job was completed in less than a month and remember a turning point this year. We obtained a new device that would replace the regular old school device called the transit. It was called a Nikon Total Station. It shot a laser to a prism on a pole that returned all the information to a data collector. No need for a third man, no measuring tapes- all angles, elevations, slope distances, all corrections done with a new earthwork program… This was changing the face of Surveying. Thoughts were -Jobs next year may not include a full crew.
