A camera is a device that records images that can be stored directly, transmitted to another location, or both. These images may be still photographs or moving images such as videos or movies. The term camera comes from the word camera obscura (Latin for "dark chamber"), an early mechanism for projecting images. The modern camera evolved from the camera obscura.
Cameras may work with the light of the visible spectrum or with other portions of the electromagnetic spectrum. A camera generally consists of an enclosed hollow with an opening (aperture) at one end for light to enter, and a recording or viewing surface for capturing the light at the other end. A majority of cameras have a lens positioned in front of the camera's opening to gather the incoming light and focus all or part of the image on the recording surface. The diameter of the aperture is often controlled by a diaphragm mechanism, but some cameras have a fixed-size aperture. Most cameras use an electronic image sensor to store photographs on flash memory. Other cameras, particularly the majority of cameras from the 20th century, use photographic film.
A typical still camera takes one photo each time the user presses the shutter button (except in continuous-fire mode). A typical movie camera continuously takes 24 film frames per second as long as the user holds down the shutter button, or until the shutter button is pressed a second time.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Manual_on_Uniform_Traffic_Control_D...
The Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) is a document issued by the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) of the United States Department of Transportation (USDOT) to specify the standards by which traffic signs, road surface markings, and signals are designed, installed, and used. These specifications include the shapes, colors, and fonts used in road markings and signs. In the United States, all traffic control devices must generally conform to these standards. The manual is used by state and local agencies as well as private construction firms to ensure that the traffic control devices they use conform to the national standard. While some state agencies have developed their own sets of standards, including their own MUTCDs, these must substantially conform to the federal MUTCD.
The Lidl Run Kildare Events 2013 were held at the Curragh Racecourse, Newbridge, Co. Kildare, Ireland on Sunday 12th May 2013. There were three events: a 10KM, a half marathon, and a full marathon. This is a selection of photographs which includes all events. The photographs are taken from the start and finish of the marathon, the finish of the 10KM, and the finish of the half marathon. Due to the large numbers participating we did not manage to photograph everyone - which was not helped by the weather. Congratulations to Jo Cawley and her RunKildare crew for another great event. The weather didn't dampen the spirits of the many happy participants.
Electronic timing was provided by Red Tag Timing [www.redtagtiming.com/]
Overall Race Summary
Participants: There were approximately 3,000 participants over the 3 race events - there were runners, joggers, and walkers participating.
Weather: A cold breezy morning with heavy rain at the start. The weather dried up for the 10KM and the Half Marathon races
Course: This is an undulating course with some good flat stretches on the Curragh.

I ran in the race - but my photograph doesn't appear here in your Flickr set! What gives?
As mentioned above we take these photographs as a hobby and as a voluntary contribution to the running community in Ireland. Very often we have actually ran in the same race and then switched to photographer mode after we finished the race. Consequently, we feel that we have no obligations to capture a photograph of every participant in the race. However, we do try our very best to capture as many participants as possible. But this is sometimes not possible for a variety of reasons:
►You were hidden behind another participant as you passed our camera
►Weather or lighting conditions meant that we had some photographs with blurry content which we did not upload to our Flickr set
►There were too many people - some races attract thousands of participants and as amateur photographs we cannot hope to capture photographs of everyone
►We simply missed you - sorry about that - we did our best!
You can email us petermooney78 AT gmail DOT com to enquire if we have a photograph of you which didn't make the final Flickr selection for the race. But we cannot promise that there will be photograph there. As alternatives we advise you to contact the race organisers to enquire if there were (1) other photographs taking photographs at the race event or if (2) there were professional commercial sports photographers taking photographs which might have some photographs of you available for purchase. You might find some links for further information above.

The image on the right is a close-up of the inside of an IRF230 MOSFET (a kind of power transistor), taken whilst the device was operating and running quite warm.
The thermal image was made using a Therm-App thermal imager with its 13mm f/1 lens at closest possible focus. To give an idea of scale, the diameter of the circle encompassing the 'works' is 20mm and the device measures 39mm in its longest dimension (not quite visible in the photo). The rectangular semicnductor device in the centre of the thermal image is about 2.75 x 4.5mm.
I was pleasantly surprised at the depth of field in the thermal image.
Normally, the 20mm circular area is covered by a metal cap but this was cut away to gain access to the device's internals. Thanks to G4JNT for this.
When the thermal image was made the device was passing about 2A with about 10V across it, dissipating about 20 watts. This is well within its specifications - provided it's bolted to a heatsink. It wasn't, so it got warm.
The diagonal lines visible on the thermal image are fine wires chemically deposited on the silicon so that current can be drawn through it. The small blue rectangle is the bond pad, where the connecting wire is bonded to the silicon die. You can see how that hair-fine wire cools the silicon, though that's only a side effect.
On the visible image the two round spots in the green dots are the lead-out wires, which protrude through the back of the device and provide connections to the outside world. A third connection is made through the metal of the case. In the thermal image the lead-out insulators appear hot but they're not: they are made of some kind of epoxy or glass that has massively higher emissivity than the metal that the rest of the device is made from.
This case style is known as TO-3 and a web search will turn up its precise dimensions. From tip to tip it's about 39mm. Likewise, a search on IRF230 will turn up a datasheet on the device.
The visible image was made with a Nikon D700 with a 28-80mm f/3.3-5.6 G lens mounted on a 48mm macro extension tube.
Comments are warmly welcomed.

Pete Rapp of Sitech Mid-Atlantic, explains the operation of a locating and positioning device to Will Patterson of TIC, during the installation of a coffer dam along the Savannah River. Sitich supplied the equipment to TIC, a subcontractor on the dissolved oxygen injection system as part of the environmental mitigation for the Savannah Harbor Expansion Project (SHEP). The coffer dam will allow workers from CDM Constructors, the prime contractor for the dissolved oxygen injection system installation, to build the site for a series of Speece cones. These cones will super-oxygenate river water and inject it back into the Savannah River to maintain current levels of dissolved oxygen as the shipping channel is deepened. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Savannah District, oversees the SHEP, including environmental mitigation. (U.S. Army Corps of Engineers photo by Billy Birdwell)

IDEAFLY APOLLO SPECIFICATIONS AND FEATURES: Cool Appearance and Convenient for Carrying: the portable, streamlined design reflects the aesthetics of its industrial design, while also allowing the Pilot to easily pack it into a backpack for transport. Precise Hovering and Self-leveling with GPS: IdeaFly Apollo has an integrated flight control system including compass and GPS that provide precise position hold, fail safe and semi-autopilot. The aircraft flies stably under the control of iFly, barometer and GPS. Fail-Safe Mode: If the Apollo loses the signal from the controller for any reason or reaches preset 100 meter high or 300 meter distance limits, the return to home feature will initialize. The aircraft will ascend to 18 meters, then make a straight-line course back to the home position specified during GPS calibration. Once home the Quadcopter will safely descend to the ground and power itself off. 2 Axis Stabilization Gimbal: IdeaFly Apollo has an external adjustable gimbal designed for Boscam and GoPro cameras. Other similar light weight camera can also be mounted on the gimbal. Compared to those simple camera mounts that come with the kits made by other manufacturers, the gimbal on Apollo is controlled by the flight controller system and is self-leveling. A pilot can also tilt the camera to look up and down by turning the position on the transmitter. The Pilot conveniently capture flight footage for exciting POV shots. 2.4GHz Transmitter included: IdeaFly Apollo contains a remote controller and receiver, which help the Pilot avoid the inconvenience of purchasing such things. The only thing needed to do is to add TX batteries (8 x AA dry cell or NiMH). Stabilized Manual, Auto Hover, and Return to Home Modes: The IdeaFly Apollo quadcopter has three different flight modes. The stabilized manual mode is semi-autopilot and a pilot has more control than other modes. In auto hover mode the quadcopter will stop as soon as you release the controls, and will stay hovering at a fixed horizontal and vertical position. This setting is the easiest to fly and is generally preferred for shooting video as the Quadcopter won't drift or be as susceptible to wind gusts. If return to home mode is trigged the aircraft will return the takeoff position automatically. To work Return to Home requires proper calibration and connection to more than four GPS satellites. Low Voltage Protection : The IdeaFly Apollo offers two levels of low voltage protection, a function of the iFly autopilot system. It prevents your multi-rotor from crashing or other harmful consequences caused by low battery voltage. In the first level of protection, the LED indicator blinks red to warn the Pilot. In the second level protection the system will trigger the aircraft to land automatically. High-Intensity LED Indicators: LED status light on quadcopter provides with various kinds of feedback and warnings. Colors alternate between red, blue and purple and can either be flashing or solid.

As well as having an obsession with tweezing my eyebrows, I am known to clean my ears more often then is required.
I know that the wax is there for a reason and it can become unhealthy to clean the ears frequently. I have cut down a lot but I used to have a daily (sometimes twice daily) obsession with jamming these little Q-tips in my ears.
I remember in grade four a girl in our class who never cleaned her ears. The orange wax caked her whole inner ear and this is what started my obsession, mostly in fear that my ears would end up in the same state. The vision plagued me for years. Later on it was just the "eargasms" that I craved.
I heart Q-tips

Today Warrington remembered.
Twenty years ago the IRA planted an explosive device in a busy shopping street, which when detonated ripped the heart out of our town, injured dozens of innocent people, took the life of Johnathan Ball a 3 year old boy and fatally injured Tim Parry a popular, fun loving 12 year old boy who died in his fathers arms 5 days later.
Today was full of sad memories of that fateful day, but also a time to reflect on the happy times I got to spend with Tim, playing football, climbing trees and roller skating around the street in which we lived.
Strength can only be taken from Tim's inspirational parents who have worked tirelessly in his name to try to bring peace to Northern Ireland and beyond. The Peace Centre (www.foundation4peace.org/) they set up in memory of the boys works to help victims of conflict and terrorism ... Good can come from evil.
During today's ceremony twenty doves were released as a symbol of peace.

The Sprengboje D is an anti-minesweep device, filled with explosives.
When a sweep hits the anchor line of the bouy it pulls the bouy onto the sweep and activates an igniter.
The explosion destroys the minesweep gear.
These bouys also washed ashore and made several casualties.
They were not recognized as a mine, and thus as a danger.
A Vlielander got killed probably by a Sprenboje; he found 'something' on the beach, took it home, and tried to dismantel it in his shed, an explosion followed which killed the man.
