Sharpening look much better with Raw Developer. Color also looks more real. The RD version is much less bright than the ACR version. I guess RD's more brutal matrix conversion results in more noise, which is being taken care of by darkening the shot by about one stop. If you add one stop of exposure in RD, there is a fair amount of noise showing up. This can be taken care of with the built-in noise reduction and by disabling the sharpening but in my anecdotal test I completely lost the detail advantage over ACR.
In sum, I find Raw Developer to be a great addition to ACR but it is not really "better", it is "different". You get better color from the SD14 and more detail, but to make use of both you have to afford a bit of noise in difficult lightning situations and/or an overall darker image. With well-exposed shots in daylight this is of course only of minor concern.
Verdict: Definitely worth the bucks but not offering miracles. When I get rich again I will surely buy it.
