He carries with him a magnifying glass, hat, and coffee cup.

I don't really enjoy Pokemon (Sorry for all you fans) But after seeing the trailer for the new movie; I thought it looked awesome!

So, I ended up building this. What do you think? Please comment! :D

"Yes, he was here. He played for the table stakes of 100k, winner take all. He did not take all."

"Where did he go after that?"

"He was light, something was said about him working it off."

Today I had the great honour of attending the opening of an exhibition by the National Library of Ireland entitled "Photo Detectives". Believe it or not (and no sniggering at the back, please) I am, somehow, among the National Library's Photo Detectives, although I am probably the Inspector Clouseau of the group. Each day the National Library posts a photo from their archive, on Flickr, with some sort of mystery to it - a group of unknown people attending a known or unknown event; an incredibly charismatic man or woman (or child) captured by the lens of a great photographic artist; the interior of a great house - but which great house? Or a street in 19th century Ireland, but in which city, and where, and are the houses still standing? Some of the people who solve these mysteries are utter geniuses and the methods they use to solve the mysteries are so inspiring these people would easily be top notch detectives, or intelligence agents. And some probably are. Some guard their identities closely, others were willing to turn up today and introduce themselves as the First Lady, Sabina Higgins, gave a rousing speech to open the exhibition into the work of the Photo Detectives. It's an adventure!

Can you find me in the above pic? And, if you're a Photo Detective, can you find yourself?

This is my 24x24 black and white vignette of a hard-broiled detective's office with a fem fatale coming through. Film Noir Pastiche - half-open Venetian blinds and all. I've always really liked the neo-noir genre of film, but never really gave proper noir a try until recently. Still working my way through "the greats". Lots of fun details in this one, but I will have to tell you the typewriter design is by Xenomurphy.

The build uses only the following colors: White, Light Gray, Light Bluish Gray, Dark Grey, Dark Bluish Grey, Black, Trans-clear, Trans-black, and Glow In Dark White. Building in monochrome was a really interesting challenge as you're forced to think more purposefully on focal point, composition, contrast, texture, story, and shape. The printed, monochromatic minifig head parts selection is surprisingly scant as well. Looking forward to giving the black and white thing another try (or two)!

The title "A Grade-A Gray Day" is from Strong Bad Email 188 - Fan Club.

Cheers!

In 1999, a statue of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's fictional detective Sherlock Holmes, "The Great Detective", was erected outside the Baker Street tube station, which is decorated in an appropriate theme. Standing over 9 feet high, the statue is just around from 221b Baker Street, Holmes' fictional home and currently a real life museum.
