Human subtlety...will never devise an invention more beautiful, more simple or more direct than does nature, because in her inventions nothing is lacking, and nothing is superfluous. ~ Leonardo Da Vinci
Sunset in Monument Valley - September 2011...was hoping for a bit of drama in the sky, but no such luck....when you're on a schedule, you have to take what you can get :-)
First day back to work wasn't too bad, but I've decided it would be so much better to be independently wealthy and not have to work...LOL!!!!! Have a great Tuesday, and as always, thanks for stopping by to visit :-)

Yes, I got your letter yesterday,
about the time the doorknob broke.
You asked me how I was doing,
is that some kind of joke?
All these people that you mention, yes I know them,
they're quite lame,
I had to re-arrange their faces and I gave 'em all
another name.
Right now I don't feel too good,
don't send me no more letters,
no, not unless you mail them from Desolation Row

The rugged desolation of the northern Atacama Desert is on full display at Kilometer-64 of the Southern Peru Copper; it's stark emptiness briefly interrupted by copper ore empties on their return journey to Cuajone Mine. The southbound Trona Railway passes one of the few roads it encounters on the journey from the mines to the UP interchange at Searles.
The Western United States has to be one of the most desolate places that I have ever been to. It is hard to imagine how much of anything could survive here or what would want to attempt to survive here, yet there is actually a whole ecosystem that thrives here. There are Bison, Deer, Prairie Dogs, Birds, Snakes, and many desert flowers and the bees that pollinate them. Even in the most desolate of places, God put life. This should be an encouragement to us that even the most desolate of hearts can be filled with life and the darkest of souls can be filled with His Light that will drive out that darkness! Nothing is impossible for Him!

Sun was breaking through the clouds and placed a strip of light on top of the hill. A fleeting moment for sure.
Sometimes in far off lands, as far away as you can see, desolate places shrouded in mystery reveal themselves. And somehow, even in desolation I find allure, and beauty.
Not the busy bustling hive of activity it was during its heyday, this is Dunaskin, Ayrshire where all that remains are the corroding derelict remains of some of Scotlands greatest industrial heritage.
AZER has exited the town of Clifton, Arizona and heads to the small yard off of Black Hill with B40-8 4003 in the lead.

A stormy day on The Great Sand Dunes National Park. We made it back to the car just before the storm hit.
