Nun's Cross Farm, Dartmoor. The farm is now used as an adventure hostel for various activities on the wilds of Dartmoor
Calm, minimalist, and Zen-like,
the focus on texture, line, and the contrast of light and shadow enhances the purity of the image.
Two parallel wooden beams create a stable, balanced composition. The gaps between them and the surrounding blank space (snow) introduce a sense of space; this minimalist layout is reminiscent of the aesthetics of negative space in Eastern art.
The rough, aged wood texture contrasts sharply with the soft, smooth snow; this tactile difference adds visual interest.
The winter snow scene naturally creates a cold, lonely, yet peaceful and tranquil atmosphere.
Although depicting figurative objects, the strong lines and forms imbue it with the qualities of abstract art, prompting viewers to reflect on concepts such as connection, separation, and the passage of time.

Landmannalaugar is in the Fjallabak Nature Reserve in the Highlands of Iceland. It is at the edge of Laugahraun lava field, which was formed in an eruption around the year 1477. It is well known for its natural geothermal hot springs and surrounding landscape.
Landmannalaugar is the northern end of the Laugavegur hiking trail and a popular destination for tourist traveling in Iceland.

A row of disused and abandoned former workers´cottages on a road out of Villaviciosa.
Best seen large.
The remains of what was once a hunting and whaling cabin on Danmark Ø, strategically overlooking the mouth of Fonfjord and the distant Volquaart von Kyst moutains on the Gaseland penninsula where it meets Scoresby Sund, East Greenland. Until recently people from the Thule culture lived on the island and remains of their rock and turf winter houses can be seen near the old cabin.

Between Vidal and Rice, the 708 crosses CA Route 62 with little but the desert sands and shrubs as its witnesses.
Yes, I got your letter yesterday,
about the time the doorknob broke.
You asked me how I was doing,
is that some kind of joke?
All these people that you mention, yes I know them,
they're quite lame,
I had to re-arrange their faces and I gave 'em all
another name.
Right now I don't feel too good,
don't send me no more letters,
no, not unless you mail them from Desolation Row

The Western United States has to be one of the most desolate places that I have ever been to. It is hard to imagine how much of anything could survive here or what would want to attempt to survive here, yet there is actually a whole ecosystem that thrives here. There are Bison, Deer, Prairie Dogs, Birds, Snakes, and many desert flowers and the bees that pollinate them. Even in the most desolate of places, God put life. This should be an encouragement to us that even the most desolate of hearts can be filled with life and the darkest of souls can be filled with His Light that will drive out that darkness! Nothing is impossible for Him!
The rugged desolation of the northern Atacama Desert is on full display at Kilometer-64 of the Southern Peru Copper; it's stark emptiness briefly interrupted by copper ore empties on their return journey to Cuajone Mine. The track geometry of the SPCC main line is an impressive feat of engineering, rising in elevation almost 13,000 ft in just 140 miles.

The low lighthouse at Burnham on Sea in somerset, taken with the drone to show how desolate this beach is at low tide.
The southbound Trona Railway passes one of the few roads it encounters on the journey from the mines to the UP interchange at Searles.
Not the busy bustling hive of activity it was during its heyday, this is Dunaskin, Ayrshire where all that remains are the corroding derelict remains of some of Scotlands greatest industrial heritage.
AZER has exited the town of Clifton, Arizona and heads to the small yard off of Black Hill with B40-8 4003 in the lead.
Sometimes in far off lands, as far away as you can see, desolate places shrouded in mystery reveal themselves. And somehow, even in desolation I find allure, and beauty.
Taken in a desolate , old, shedding house in the old Portuguese colonial town of Goa, a part of Panjim the local city Center in the olden Portuguese era, a lot of these old building lie empty with no one to care for . Saw an opportunity for an amazing click , grabbed it.
Mill D North Fork to Desolation Lake; Big Cottonwood Canyon, Utah; October 2017
I've never been able to figure out the origin of all the desolation names on the ridge between Big Cottonwood and Mill Creek Canyons, but there are a few: Desolation Lake, Desolation Peak, the Desolation Trail. These are from the end of the relatively easy seven mile round trip to Desolation Lake. I liked the how the contrast between the water of the lake, the early season snow, and the trees in these shots turned out.
Human subtlety...will never devise an invention more beautiful, more simple or more direct than does nature, because in her inventions nothing is lacking, and nothing is superfluous. ~ Leonardo Da Vinci
Sunset in Monument Valley - September 2011...was hoping for a bit of drama in the sky, but no such luck....when you're on a schedule, you have to take what you can get :-)
First day back to work wasn't too bad, but I've decided it would be so much better to be independently wealthy and not have to work...LOL!!!!! Have a great Tuesday, and as always, thanks for stopping by to visit :-)
