The Desolation Wilderness is just west of lake Tahoe. It was some of the most beautiful scenery i have ever seen. The terrain is quite uneven through out most of the trail. That there is Emerald Bay in the background.
The wooden chalets (or cabins if you prefer) have unique decorations in the panelling, made by local artisans
Desolation Wilderness is one of the most popular wilderness areas in the country. Lake Aloha, its largest lake, formed in a wide granite basin carved by glaciers of the last ice age.
This was part of our hike in the Desolation Wilderness area of Lake Tahoe. I was sure we were going to see a bear, but we didn't.

Susie Lake, (elev. 7,800 feet) viewed from our campsite. Shawn and I swam in this lake early the next morning, and it was something beyond shockingly cold. (This felt terrifying for several minutes, after which it felt fantastic.)
