Desolation Wilderness, Lake Echo to Eagle Fa
Desolation Wilderness, Lake Echo to Eagle Falls, two days, about 20 miles
Geothermally hot water once flowed freely over this landscape, killing all vegetation and trees. The hot water contained dissolved Calcium bicarbonate and other minerals releases Carbon Dioxide to deposit the sparingly soluble white colored limestone we see now. The grey limestone deposits are dried out and water no longer flows over them, but they are clear evidence of what once was.

when I arrived at the lodge, I looked around to capture something into my camera. regretfully it was in winter season, so every plants were withered. and I think it provides the seasonal desolate meanings.

This is another version of my "Desolation" picture that I took back in 2013, but in color. I came across some pictures by Doug Landreth and it inspired me to purchase a couple of textures from Photomorphis. I've created a few pictures using textures, but was never quite happy with them. I'm still undecided about this one as an image on a screen. However, when I printed it on Epson Velvet Fine Art Paper it was really cool.

Inishmurray, a desolate, abandoned island off the coast of Sligo, with monastic origins back to the 6th century. Inishmurray was occupied until 1948 when the last remaining islanders left for a new life on the mainland. The remains of their homes, graves and the fortified monastery are all that’s left of what was once a small thriving community living off the sea and a small area of arable land.
Possibly my favourite photograph from all that I've uploaded so far (march 2008). Not really sure why, though.
It reminds me of great song by Bob Dylan:
"Einstein, disguised as Robin Hood
With his memories in a trunk
Passed this way an hour ago
With his friend, a jealous monk
He looked so immaculately frightful
As he bummed a cigarette
Then he went off sniffing drainpipes
And reciting the alphabet
Now you would not think to look at him
But he was famous long ago
For playing the electric violin
On Desolation Row"
