Short Beach, Smithtown

The sun was out this morning and then everything went gray - resulting in some desolate snow scenes devoid of colour. Then an hour before sunset the sun popped out for a blistering sunset www.flickr.com/photos/out_of_ireland/12163028375/

Spurn Point Lighthouse. The beach was covered with so much rubbish it was unbeliveable.

Geothermally hot water once flowed freely over this landscape, killing all vegetation and trees. The hot water contained dissolved Calcium bicarbonate and other minerals releases Carbon Dioxide to deposit the sparingly soluble white colored limestone we see now. The grey limestone deposits are dried out and water no longer flows over them, but they are clear evidence of what once was.

Desolate, lonely and beautiful.

Backpacking trip to Red Peak and Lake #3, Desolation Wilderness, El Dorado National Forest, California. || Photo info: Taken 2022-08-20 with Canon EOS 5D Mark IV, EF24-70mm f/2.8L II USM, ¹⁄₅₀₀ sec at f/6.3, focal length 53 mm, ISO ISO 100. Copyright 2022 .

A little earlier in the day.

I walked almost five miles on the rocky bank of the river from the entrance to the National Great Falls Park to this spot. The huge boulders on the path of the river near the village of Great Falls in Virginia and Potomac on the Maryland side of the river, add such amazing spectacle and rush to the speeding water which then surges through many cascades formed by the zigzag of rocks. Millions of visitors come to this park annually to enjoy the scenery, picnicking, rock climbing and canoeing (kayaking).

when I arrived at the lodge, I looked around to capture something into my camera. regretfully it was in winter season, so every plants were withered. and I think it provides the seasonal desolate meanings.

This is another version of my "Desolation" picture that I took back in 2013, but in color. I came across some pictures by Doug Landreth and it inspired me to purchase a couple of textures from Photomorphis. I've created a few pictures using textures, but was never quite happy with them. I'm still undecided about this one as an image on a screen. However, when I printed it on Epson Velvet Fine Art Paper it was really cool.

La cycliste attendant patiemment le retour de son photographe... Au fond (la tache orangée avec deux tourelles...), le motel Château Port-Cartier où nous logions.

Detroit Lake is one of the man made lakes used for flood control of the Willamette River. Each fall they draw it down to receive the runoff from the Cascade's snowfall exposing these tree trunks. I like the desolate look of this vantage point and thought it looked better in this cyanotype preset.
