Short and sweet, but still deserving of a revamp. This was a set my brother owned back in the day. So there's some nostalgia to it
No, our Beautiful Plant is not a native of Mexico, although it has today been naturalised - often as an environmental weed as for example in Australia - throughout (semi-)tropical climes. And: no! it was not discovered by Clas Alströmer (1736-1794) during a trip to Brazil in 1753; that worthy naturalist never travelled to the New World. Beware of these 'facts' parroted on the internet...
But: yes! Alstroemeria does hail from Brazil and Peru where it was first described - with a different name: e.g. Hemerocallis floribus purpurascentibus striatis - by a missionary-explorer and naturalist from the Provence, Louis Éconches Feuillée (1660-1732). Great Carolus Linnaeus refers to Feuillée's long description, published in 1714 (including a drawing). Feuillée enthuses: 'The flower of this plant by its beauty deserves a place in the Gardens of the Incas'. And a bit further on he declares that plants of this kind might bring the Incas to knowledge of the true God...
And: yes! Linnaeus named Alstroemeria for his onetime student and faithful correspondent Clas Alströmer. During his extended travel in Spain, Alströmer entertained a lively correspondence with Linnaeus. It seems that Clas had sent Carolus seeds or bulbs of Our Plant from Cadiz, and that the latter was much taken by its beautiful flowers. Linnaeus wrote Alströmer he'd name the plants for him. Alströmer was much honored but as a worthy Latinist he on February 16, 1761, warned Linnaeus to get the name right: it's to be 'Alstroemeria' and not 'Alstroemia', to avoid confusion with the common family name 'Alström'. "No, I am Baron Alströmer, not a mere commoner", he must have thought as he penned his grateful letter.
It wasn't until quite a while later that Curtis's Botanical Magazine got around to describing this Alstroemeria psittacina. It had been received in Britain in the the late 1820s from Johann Georg Christian Lehmann (1792-1826), well-known botanist of Hamburg. Soon it had flowered delightfully in the Green Houses of Edinburgh and Glasgow Botanical Gardens. Curtis's (1830) writes glowingly: 'It is said to be a native of Mexico, and is certainly well deserving a place in every collection from the singular colour of its flowers'.

While many of the images I captured that morning hiking to The Window were wider angle ones allow one to take in the view seem with the eyes typical during a hike, I found this one portion deserving a close in look, showing the rich details and colors present. This was a view looking to the west-southwest to an unknown set of peaks while on a hike to The Window in Big Bend National Park.
"Farewell! Thou art too dear for my possessing,
And like enough thou know'st thy estimate,
The charter of thy worth gives thee releasing;
My bonds in thee are all determinate.
For how do I hold thee but by thy granting,
And for that riches where is my deserving?
The cause of this fair gift in me is wanting,
And so my patent back again is swerving.
Thyself thou gav'st, thy own worth then not knowing,
Or me, to whom thou gav'st it, else mistaking;
So thy great gift upon misprision growing,
Comes home again, on better judgement making.
Thus have I had thee as a dream doth flatter,
In sleep a king, but waking no such matter."

The Icefields Parkway, a 232 km road trip between Jasper and Lake Louise, is fully deserving of its tag as the most spectacular journey in the world. I can unashamedly say that in a lot of respects NZ has very similar scenery (albeit minus the conifer forests and the huge variety of four-legged wildlife!), however, the sheer vastness of the Canada landscapes is something to behold.

Many birds in the family Tyrannidae are called tyrants, but mainly because the first named member of this family, Eastern Kingbird, behaved tyrannically towards other birds and was called "Tyrant": www.flickr.com/photos/timmelling/54018770724/in/photolist But Cattle Tyrant is more deserving of the name as it is pugnacious, and is known for stealing nests from other birds. Its scientific name (Machetornis rixosa) even translates as quarrelsome fighting bird. The "cattle" part of its name comes from its habit of following cows around, sometimes perching on their backs, then swooping to catch flushed insects. I photographed this individual at Costanera Sur near Buenos Aries.

IN THE BACKGROUND THE SANCTUARY OF SANTA MARIA DELL'ANGELO
The Sanctuary of the Madonna dell’Angelo is not only a religious symbol of Caorle - located on a promontory close to the Adriatic Sea - which with its three-nave wooden church was once dedicated to St. Michael the Archangel.
The legend tells of some fishermen who found in the sea a wooden statue of the Madonna and Child able to float despite resting on a marble pedestal: vain their attempts to bring it to safety inside the Cathedral, only a few children succeeded. deserving of innocence. But it does not end here, the next day the statue disappeared only to be found in the small church on the sea which was then renamed as the Church of the Madonna dell’Angelo.

And so it seems I’m moving on my own
The audacity to question me
Like you ain't leave me
Out here on my own
I was traumatized and suicidal
Sick and tired I am not to blame
Once I felt a way, but not today
I’m not afraid now i can say
Get your bitch ass off of my phone
Please leave me alone
I am not your girl anymore
You need to watch your tone
Don't worry about who it is i'm fucking
Or who I am loving
Just know that it is not you
This isn't up for discussion
I wish you good luck man
When it comes to you
It's none of my concern anymore
None of my concern
I know that I'm deserving of more
I know what I deserve

Trust, according to many, needs to be earned but cannot be taken for granted. The idea of trust is that one is comfortable with sharing thoughts and secrets with the person he/ she believes is reliable. Out of the many times you needed them, they were there for you. But what if that person turned out to be unreliable as a friend to confide in and he/ she ended up not deserving that trust?
Who would catch you when you fall?
For me, trust is given from the very start to every single person I meet, until something in my gut tells me they shouldn’t be trusted. Not to say I end up hating the people and ignoring them, but rather that I wouldn’t confide in them my personal thoughts and opinions.

_____________
I could spend the rest of my life being angry at the world. It would be easy. Take away the most important person in someone's life and watch them fall apart. It would be very easy to grow into thinking there's no use for anything. That there is no such thing as right or wrong and that no one gets what they deserve. That good people are rare and power is always in the wrong hands. That everybody only thinks about themselves. That the best thing that could happen to our planet is for the human race to go extinct.
And maybe all this is true. Well, it probably is. I am not going to lie. I was never very good at it. But perhaps there is hope.
I was never very proud of myself. I have lived my entire life in fear. Fear of failure, fear of falling, fear of never getting what I want, fear of getting what I want and hating it. Fear of walking the streets alone, fear of being too different, fear of being hurt, hated, misunderstood. Fear of saying too much or - in my case - rather too little. Fear of not being good enough. Fear of not deserving anything worth living for. Fear of death. Fear of living. Because of this, I have lived most of my life inside my mind, inside my heart, which was mostly closed. My eyes, too.
Loving Christophe may have been the first thing in my life that ever felt right. That I did right. Meeting Christophe was imminent. I never questioned it. It was destiny. Truth. Love. Things that I was never sure of actually existed. Things that in a just world, never should have been mine. Me, a coward. But they happened. They made me a better person. And even though my heart, my dreams and my future have been shattered, I am not broken. Somehow all those little pieces are still holding on to each other, and are making it work. I can still love. I still dream. I still hope. Maybe more.
I am less afraid. Because it doesn't matter. Because everything matters. Because people need to make other people's life more bearable, not the opposite. We are all alone. None of us is alone. Not even this strange person writing this to you. I believe in the power of words, you know. If it weren't for Bukowski, Thoreau, Camus, Nin and all those strangers and friends who have written to me, I might not be sitting here writing this right now. And you would never be reading this. And maybe it's not important that you read this. Mere words. My mere world.
Perhaps I will never know love like that again. Nobody expects to be struck by lightening twice. Whatever happens, I accept my destiny. I accept the wonky crooked path that was designed for my feet only. And if I am to walk that path alone, I will. And if at some point I get lost, that will be okay too. Because in the end, I am only human. And that is all that can truly be expected of me.
But I've never been really good at doing what is expected. A crooked path for crooked feet. Guided by a single beat.
The beating of a heart.
And I wish for you the same.
“At night I'm walking - I walk into the night
I'm hearing voices - But no one is in sight
I call out loudly - and softly they reply
You are not dreaming - how nice of you to stop by
Cause when they sing
They sing in the dark, sing for the lost, sing to give hope.”

While out for an evening walk, I came across this emerald-eyed tree frog (Hypsiboas crepitans). It was just hanging out, occasionally calling out to other frogs, and none to disturbed by my presence. It stayed just long enough for me to capture a couple photos, and even a few selfies, before deciding to hop off into the darkness, in search of food or a mate. Mt. Irvine. Trinidad and Tobago.

Half of all the world’s species of amphibians are in decline, and over a third are already in danger of extinction. Like many creatures, they have been hit hard by climate change and habitat loss; and have been decimated by the spread of the deadly fungal disease chytridiomycosis - a fungus capable of causing sporadic deaths in some amphibian populations and 100 percent mortality in others. Most species may not be as cute, cuddly, or inspire the awe and wonder of endangered mammals and birds, but their role in maintaining healthy natural ecosystems is equally just as important, and they’re no less deserving of our protection.
“La vita è così, è piena di parole che non valgono la pena, oppure la valevano e non la valgono più, ognuna di quelle che pronunceremo toglierà il posto a un’altra più meritevole, che lo sarebbe non tanto di per sè quanto per le conseguenze di averla detta.” Saramago
Life is like that, full of words that are not worth saying or that were worth saying once but not any more, each word that we utter will take up the space of another more deserving word not deserving in its own right, but because of the possible consequences of saying it" Saramago

Chairing is Caring is an exciting downtown art project celebrating local artists and telling stories of the diverse communities that are part of Waterdown Village. This summer, you’ll find painted Muskoka chairs in outdoor gallery locations at sponsor businesses bringing vibrancy to our streetscape and providing interesting places to sit and relax.
Each chair focuses on a theme as interpreted by the artist and is tied to a non-profit organization that supports an equity-deserving group. Collectively, the series highlights the compassionate and collaborative soul of our Village.
This Christmas, the Peanuts gang are performing "The Seven Questions of Christmas" at the Bijou Planks Theater! The show is now reaches it finale on Christmas Day as Charlie Brown takes center stage!
"Why Christmas? We see in 1 Timothy, chapter 1, verse 15, "This saying is trustworthy and deserving of full acceptance: “Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners”—and I am the worst of them."
As we have seen throughout the presentation, on Christmas day we celebrate the Lord Jesus Christ, fully God, stepping into His creation and becoming fully man as well. Why did He do this? Why Christmas? So that we can be saved. So that we can be made right with God, by God.
We celebrate the birth of Christ Jesus who came specifically to do the terrible work necessary to save all those who would repent and believe.
"We see the good news in Titus 2:11, For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation to all people" All people, no matter where they are from, who they are, or what they've done, can be saved by turning to the Lord, Christ Jesus in belief. Even, as we just saw, if we are the worst of sinners.
That's why we have a Christmas. Merry Christmas everyone!"

CHRISTmas! He is truly the reason for the season as there would be no Christmas without Him, making our traditions of gifts and celebrations disingenuous if they do not point to the Lord, Christ Jesus.

A lot of my life, I've been really hard on myself and my looks and talents. After a while, I realized that everyone has these insecurities, so I wrote down a few common ones in chalk. On my hand is a series of words each representing the best trait of each one of my friends. I hope everyone knows that your insecurities should mean as much to you as chalk dust, and they can be smeared away as soon as you realize how Perfect you are.

The Pilate caves are a complex of caves from the Roman era, dug at sea level. It consists of large caves connected to the sea and between them by tunnels, dug into the rocky bank just south-east of the port. The presumed use was linked to the imperial villa of ponza. In 1997 a Roman marble statue and oil lamps were found.
The caves of Pilato, located just after the port and under the cemetery of Ponza, are nothing more than an underground and underwater archaeological complex dating back to the first century BC, so named in memory of an ancient legend of which Pilate of Judea was the protagonist. , at the time a reckless scion of a noble Roman family who was sent to Ponza with the official task of quelling a revolt, but in reality to keep him out of trouble. Pilate, however, succeeded with glory in his mission, deserving the appellation of Pontius, so much so that the Senate assigned him the rank of Governor and sent him to Palestine to tame the rebellious Jews.
The caves, meticulously dug and perfectly carved even below sea level, were almost certainly used for the breeding of fish, in particular the moray eels, a fish considered sacred by the Romans for the alleged propitiatory functions attributed to it, hence also called Ancient Roman Murenaio.
Through a wide staircase, the pools were an integral part of a sumptuous Roman imperial residence, which belonged to the emperor Octavian Augustus, whose remains are still visible on the island promontory, at the base of the Madonna hill, and included five pools carved into the rock. , connected to each other by a system of submarine tunnels, four covered and one open, of which the main one consists of five openings that allowed the exchange of water and the transfer of fish to the other tanks by means of shutters.
The niches carved into the rock housed statues of pagan divinities and in particular the one in the center of the back wall of the main cave had to house a white marble statue, probably depicting an Apollo or a Dionysius, recovered recently, together with a small tuff altar and some terracotta lamps that still show traces of combustion and burned on the beak, as well as other various finds.
All the buildings are known as the "Lord Leycester".
The Lord Leycester is a medieval treasure with a 700 year unbroken legacy of people living on this site and a precious collection of half-timbered buildings.
The first building was the original chapel, built in 1123.
Between 1385 and 1430 the medieval Guilds built the half-timbered buildings as a centre to govern the town, house travellers and provide support to the deserving poor. In 1571 Robert Dudley, Queen Elizabeth I’s favoured courtier, established a community of Master and Brethren in the old Guild buildings. The Brethren were, and still are, deserving military who served Crown and Country and were carefully selected to live here. We are Warwickshire’s answer to the Chelsea Pensioners but smaller and older!
Today the Hospital is run by the Master, a retired military officer. The eight ex-servicemen and their wives who live here, are provided with almshouses, carry out ceremonial duties and act as guides for visitors.
It consists of group of passages containing 28 squares rooms for watching the ships of enemies which entered the harbor and also to store weapons, guns, and other fighting tools.
The Sultan Qansoh El-Ghoury gave the Citadel special attention. He visited it several times and increased the strength of the garrison, providing it with various weapons and equipment. It included a large prison made for the princes and the state-men whom the Sultan removed from his favor for some reason. In the episodes of the year 920 H, the Sultan El-Ghoury traveled to Alexandria with other princes. They went to the Citadel of Qaitbay where he watched some maneuvers and military training on the defensive weapons of the Citadel of that era. When he felt the approach of the Ottoman threat, he issued a military decree to forbid weapons to be taken out of the Citadel, he even announced that the death penalty would be the punishment to those who try to steal anything from the Citadel, and he ordered the inscription of this decree on a marble slate fixed to the door leading the court. It says: "Bism Ellah El-Rahman El-Rahim" A decree by the order of our master, the noble rank, King Al-Ashraf Abou El-Naser Qansoh El-Ghoury. This translates to "May God eternalise his reign, that nobody should take Makahel weapon, gunpowder, tools, or any other thing from the noble tower in Alexandria: and any one of the tower party, whether Mameluke, Slaves or Zarad Kashia, who breaks this (decree) and leaves the tower with something will be hanged at the gate of the tower, deserving the curse of God."
After my return to Montreal from the Maritimes, I rode Canadian Pacific's proud "Canadian" to Ottawa. The old Union Station, convenient to the center - or centre - of Canada's capitol city, had been converted from rail use (still used, I believe, as a convention or visitor center), and the replacement was an expensive taxi ride away from town and convenient hotels. This was my train from Montreal: seven cars behind an FP9 and FP7 duo (1410-1403), as it awaited departure. Too bad about the mechanical truck blocking the view, but by now it's probably deserving of special note as well. Still no excuse for stealing the spotlight from one of Llanuza's "babies"!
Yup, they were completely deserving of it!

"“They say you never see it coming
All the tiny little breaks
But somewhere out beyond no reason
You keep on giving what it takes
I never thought of running
I was busy carrying a load
Had the strength enough to take it
But not enough to let it go
It's a long time coming down a broken road
And finally I can feel without fearing
Cry without the pain
Stand up and love me
Or without any shame
It might have been a rough way learning
And a hard place to land
But the one thing I'm sure of now
Is I know who I am
Now if somebody whould have told me
There was a better place to be
In my quiet desparation
It was to hard to belief
I guess you gotta know the distance
So when you know enough's, enough
Now let nobody take it from me
Cause I know what I'm made of
And there's nothing I can't rise above
And finally I can feel without fearing
Cry without the pain
Stand up and love me
Or without any shame
It might have been a rough way to learn it
And a hard place to land
But the one thing I'm sure of now
Is I know who I am
I am a woman who's worthy
I am a woman's deserving whatever it is
I can take it whatever it takes
I'm gonna make it
And finally I can feel without fearing
Cry without the pain
Stand up and love me
Or without any shame
It might have been a rough way learning
And a hard place to land
But the one thing I'm sure of now
Oh, and I absolutely
Know who I am
I know who I am
I Know
Who
I Am” ~*~
