Rule of Composition

- The main subject is focused and the background is all blur. It creates a depth effect in this photo.

Why is it a Good Photo

- The reflection of the main subject makes this photo more interesting.

- There is very little color in this photo, so the viewers wont get distracted easily.

How it Could be Improved

- The black slippers at the background should be removed in this photo.

This was shot using automatic setting for Sports mode to capture the flowing waterfall - of course this was taken before I joined the session led by Prof Jordahl to day. Thanks, Kate! f6.3 & s1/1600.

How shallow? 'Groyne depth' On Black

Who owns a camera, goes down the beach and doesn't take a photo of a groyne!?

(from my "Depth of Field" album) I experimented with different shutter speeds when trying to capture insects. I also adjusted the ISO and the aperture for this shot.

As I've said before, I like taking photos of bees and other insects. And as you can guess, they are not patient subjects so this was snapped quickly and I didn't have time to adjust the settings; however, I think it came out pretty nicely. I did have a tripod with me. I like how the background is not in focus, but some of the flower petals are detailed nicely.

For my shot photo I tried depth of field with my shoes. The white and black shoes are out of focus.

This Image I had fun working with. This bee was sitting on top of my kids playhouse. I captured it a different angles but these were my 2 best. This one shows the bee clearer and the edges blurry.

Example of depth of the field. Shot on F8. I set the focus on the front rock, and then recomposed.

-Both animal and background is in focus

DOF with lines. Not quite as pure/correct as with points, but pretty good for most lines.

I took this photo because these flowers are special to me since my boyfriend gave them to me. I took it in a dark setting so the foreground would stand out against the background. It shows depth because I have that feeling like I could reach out and touch them.

Cookie's googly eyes are the focus here whereas poor Eeyore is being ignored yet again. Somehow, he's not surprised.

This is my new little buddy, he is a 512mb memory stick. He is the smallest in the world and only cost £10..

Here you can see the depth of the little guy, the orange thing is actually a pencil, I thought it might give people an idea of the tiny size of this thing..

It was only a matter of time before I would start posting photos of the ring. I'll try not to go overboard.

Learning about mushrooms

I chose this one because of the shallow depth of field standing within trees.

i used this photo to show depth of field because my cat came out crisp where you can even see the dust on his fur their was good sunlight behind him and my camera was at full zoom

f-22, shutter-1/15

I used slower shutter speed and the ducks swimming in the water are showing the movement ( ducks are in the middle at the bottom).
