Meet Vivek.. A Purdue Grad, A Pharmacist, and a Military Captain.
Vivek will be doing a 1 year tour of duty in Iraq, starting 2 weeks from now.
his father had asked me do a photo shoot of him and his car..
when i first meet Vivek 2 weeks ago, i thought father bought the car for him, but it turns out Vivek earned this by him self..
it totally makes me smile that if you work hard enough, you can meet all your goals.. congrats to him to make it out of a difficult program at Purdue.. and to serve the USA in the armed forces..
it is fitting i did the SKYLINE shot on a SKYLINE top of the parking garage..
The Legendary Nissan Skyline has quite the fan far in Japan, but few know about this car here in north america..
i was lucky enough to drive this amazing piece of engineering at the end of the night
quick specs...
0-60 mph in 3.2 seconds.. and if your a bad drive, then maybe 3.5 seconds.. lol..
some 450 LB torque
some 500 stock HP
it was a tricky shoot.. windy and cold.. and the sky was changing so fast i just got what i could and i wanted to get more lights out of my outback, but i couldn't , time was of essence.. so instead of messing around and getting all the lights, i settled with a 2 light set up..
back lighting was AB1600 bare at 1/2 power about 10 feet out
key lighting on Vivek was Elinchrom Quadra with deep octa about 5 feet away held by dad @ 3.0 power

set up shot for Skylar and mother holding the elinchrom quadra and the 100 cm 39inch deep octa..
as you see the light weight set up is for running and gunning..
it is pricey but totally worth it..

Final set from todays "Mastering the model shoot A-Z" workshop.
Normally we don't do glamour during the A-Z but sometimes there is time for something special, and the topic expression, BW was great to combine with some glamour.

A behind the scene shot for this image that shows the lighting setup can be found on my website www.vandalredlabel.co.uk
under the portfolio tab
Beauty head shot and a lighting setup explanation, which is one Elinchrom quadra ranger (A head) in a deep octa with outer diffuser removed and a reflector silver side.
How I place the light: Above the subject and lowered until I can see the catch light how I want it in the eyes, the reflector fills in under the neck, nose and any other area that would cast a shadow by a downward light source.
I use a large Octa as I prefer the larger light source which is beautifully soft. I also over expose depending on skin tone, this eliminates a lot of retouching, this is subject to taste and the look you are trying to achieve.
I hope the this helps.

working with Ashley's senior photos.. but clearly she is not the standard Senior being she is a rep for my photography..
so something edgy, with a touch of glam, and motion is what we came up with.
we had her friend Megan to help hold the Elinchrom quadra with the Deep Octa for Key about 7 feet away..
and for the back lighting was the Color Red (requested by Ashley) with a single 580 EXII @ 1/64 power

Strobist info: Shot using two Elinchrom ELC Pro HD's. The first high through a Deep Octa and to the front set on a delay to trigger near the end of Steve's rep. The second on stroboscopic (I believe 8hz, 5 flashes over 0.6 sec shutter) through a standard reflector, gel'd orange, to freeze him at intervals during the exposure. Triggered using skyports.

Hey Friends,
it´s hot out there! Time to cool down ;). I really enjoy my holidays. Yesterday I had a shooting with an amazing woman I haven´t seen for 9 years! It was so cool spending some hours with her, talking, and taking photos. You will see the results soon!
But now Part No II. If you don´t know the song 'Can´t believe' by Staind check out the unplugged version! Really nice acoustic stuff!
Thanks again to Micha for helping me out!
Cheers, Marcus

Hey Guys!
Last Sunday I met B. A new "face". On Facebook I was asking if someone wants to shoot on a lake. She was the first who wrote and we did some brainstorming and fixed our ideas. Couple days later we met us in Berlin Tegel to get to the lake Tegel. Well, after a long walk across a wood we finally reached it. The weather was perfect. Sunny, some clouds, warm water.
Michael was my assistant helping me out holding the heavy ranger and carrying the bags. Again, Micha, thank you so much for your help!
A big thank you to B. Second time in front of a camera and you worked like a pro ;)!
Now have fun with the first result. The next is coming tomorrow!
Please be so kind and check out Michas Flickr!

Senior session. She had such a vintage look to her so I gave it this treatment. Odd Strobist here, lighting was from an Elinchrom deep octa high and above left of subject. However, the strobe was turned off. Just using reflected light off the face of the octa for the main, window light behind.

I shot this some time in June last year and only recently found out that the model submitted it to Dark Beauty magazine. Got almost 9000 likes on their facebook. Pretty cool stuff :)
