Greenville Fire/Rescue's new 65-foot tiller truck was dedicated during a special "push-in" ceremony on Monday, December 20. The ceremony was held in the newly-expanded engine bay at Fire Station 1, the addition built specifically to house the new tiller truck.
The 65-foot truck has been added to the Fire/Rescue fleet specifically to keep up with Greenville and the Uptown District's growth. Despite the truck's length, it maintains extreme maneuverability by pivoting in the middle and steering provided by drivers in both the front and rear.
Push-in ceremonies are a tradition based on common practice in the 1800's when the fire apparatus was pulled by horses. Following a call, firefighters would have to disconnect the apparatus from the horses and push it back into the bay. The tradition is maintained today when a new fire engine is purchased by a department and the new engine is ceremonially pushed into the bay.

This week has been all about tiredness. The house has been ringing to the sound of mobiles, pagers and phones at all hours. To neighbours banging, to workmen up the road pretending they're doing something. I seem to have spent far too much time speaking to people back in the UK this week, worrying about money, about the flat I still co-own in Scotland, about friends with troubles, about my own. Time spent 'doing' when I should be sleeping.
If anyone, ever, tells you emigrating to the other side of the world is easy, kick them for me. It is about as big a test of determination and resolve as I can physically imagine anyone creating. Money literally pours from every hole you make, the job and photography contacts I was happily building vanish, your friends are as far away as they can be without coming back; I spent nearly five months without work. And every morning this week when I wake up begrudgingly and look in the mirror, my face tells me so.
The biggest test of doing 'this' isn't missing people, it's reminding yourself that it's the right thing when it's taken everything you have left.
But it is. It is the right thing.

The Colorado State University Early Childhood Center celebrates their new Bea Romer and Peggy Noland Children's Musical Garden with a dedication ceremony, October 17, 2014. The garden, which features various musical instruments designed for children, was funded with a $53,000 donation from former Colorado First Lady Bea Romer and her close friend Peggy Noland, who met as freshmen at what was then known as Colorado A&M in 1947. Both studied child development in what was then called the College of Home Economics, and early childhood education was Romer’s focus when her husband, Roy Romer, served as Colorado governor for three terms in the 1980s and 1990s.
I have been thinking over this for a few days, well really a great while, I thought of a dedication to my lovely new Flickr friends, but I thought I would put myself out there and
DEDICATE these to lovely girls to my Parents,
I have lost my parents and these girls are named after them, so needless to say these are my forever girls,
Denni - who is named after my amazing father, His name was Lionel, but apparently his siblings could not say Lionel so he got Denny, which has been even given to my grand-babys middle same.
Georgie - she is after my lovely mum who left me not that long ago, which I still find very hard. Her name was Shirley Georgina.
So my Dedication is to my amazing parents who taught me I could be what ever I wanted to be, who also allowed me to make my own mistakes and who were always there to help pick up the pieces.
Love you Guys Always
