Karolina - Electrocentràly

Czech Republic - 2012

We started taking her apart in ~October 2005. This is foam for flotation under the seats. All of the fluff was from mice nests. They left a huge amount of evidence of their presence. There were also ~75-100 mud wasp nests. The weight probably cancelled out much of the flotation value of the foam.

Tear down and build new. Bellevue light rail station.

I don't think I've ever seen a "Deconstruction" sign before. I guess it's appropriate for the university, it reminds me of all the critiques, analyses, and deconstruction we do in class.

Now removing the lower deck.

Pseudoexpository relaxation of principles. It's not what you see, it's what you think.

Actually, it's both. Artifact, concept and its autophagia. Pen and watercolor, c. 1973.

Shaken Up: Earthquake Series

I was taking a walk through town the other day and decided I wanted to document the carnage that's still on display in Christchurch. I didn't want to make it too journalistic or "real", I wanted it to feel as if it was somewhere far removed from here; to somehow find a way to make it easily accessible and edgy. That it would be something you'd have on your wall and proudly say that that was a time in our city that I was present for, not something to file away in the darkest corners of our memory. I want Cantabrians to be proud of what they went through, of what it taught us and our evolution as a city. Making something constructive out of something destructive is the best way to deal with something like this. To bring a cinematic feel that strikes close to home and almost brings an excitement factor is what I would like.

the black background doesn't actually do this one any favors.

Her hair has only been washed & conditioned & combed. You can easily comb it back into the original style!

My most recent lighting studio assignment was to pick a photo and deconstruct it's lighting architecture and recreate it. Here's my attempt.

Created in Adobe Photoshop using stock images from texturelib.com.

I was apart of the lucky few that got into Tiger Stadium one lucky day last September... but today really was a great topping on the cake.

This morning I was lucky enough to be in front of Tiger Stadium when some 'security guards' accidentally left the front gate WIDE OPEN. Myself, Kirk, Mike, and Paul just walked right in.

We continued in and snapped some shots.

However, in about 2-3 minutes... there were security guards shouting at us telling us that we weren't supposed to be in there.

Oops. :)

A special thanks to Mike getting in my shot. Prick...

Done in Y13 using Derrida's idea of deconstruction. Used a magazine image and reconstructed the mouths upside down as my theme for this project was Emotions & Body Language.

Making way for a new condo.

A "deep dive" into a soon-to-disappear retail landmark. The first and original anchor store at the Beloit Plaza. Walked around on a cold day last week with a too-long lens (effective 120-300mm) focused on demolition of the unique architecture that made up most (all?) Kohl's Grocery stores in the 60's.

The arched design meant there are no interior beams or supporting columns. This results in an open floor plan, with no obstructions. It'd make a near-perfect venue for concerts and theater, but in this location, and with a population less-than 50,000, the Greater Beloit area would be hard pressed to make the economics work for such a venue.

As I understand it, this will be torn down and replaced with a new building housing the Kids First Beloit Lincoln Academy public charter school.
