"Deconstruction peels away the layers of ideological obscuration, exposing the conflict that has been suppressed; the 'devalued other is made visible.'"

"Deconstructing Organizational Taboos: The Suppression of Gender Conflict in Organizations" by Joanne Martin gives a definition of deconstruction that is easy to imagine. She plainly states that deconstruction is a form of critical thinking that unearths arguments that are rarely challenged. In addition to that, it uses the same text to show that it contradicts itself. She gives a definition applicable to the text in which she writes. However, J. Hillis Miller gives a more general definition. He says, “Deconstruction is not a dismantling of the structure of a text, but a demonstration that it has already dismantled itself. Its apparently-solid ground is no rock, but thin air."

This is a picture of smashing a nut. It illustrates the meaning John D. Caputo renders: "Whenever deconstruction finds a nutshell—a secure axiom or a pithy maxim—the very idea is to crack it open and disturb this tranquility. Indeed, that is a good rule of thumb in deconstruction. That is what deconstruction is all about, its very meaning and mission, if it has any. One might even say that cracking nutshells is what deconstruction is. In a nutshell"

The hole where the Feeney Dining Center used to be on the campus of Illinois State University. This is from the first roll I shot with a cool, circa 1956, Agfa Clack. It was cold outside, I wasn't dressed properly so I was shivering, and I had to point the camera through a chain link fence. Some sun flare and I think a light leak (it was the last frame on the roll), but I like the effect. Kodak T-Max 100 film.

What's left of the hammerhead crane in Barrow's Buccleuch Dock - the crane is currently being dismantled (as you can probably guess!) and will soon be nothing more than a memory.

A Strange and weird, but colorful deconstruction of my white Alyssum photo.

Deconstruction for the new living room

The prof had been deferring the replacement of our printer because of the difficulty of disposing of the old one. When it eventually refused to work at all, steps had to be taken. Here he can be seen taking it apart into disposable chunks.

Tear-down efforts nearly completed on the former Key Bank building at 50 South Main Street in Salt Lake City, Utah.

The building is being leveled as part of the LDS Church's City Creek Center mall development.

This is what's left of the deanza drive in theater. Times have changed! I took one last picture of what was left early in the morning. As you can see there's construction people ready to tear the rest down. They began tearing it down due to drug activity happening there.

When I was studying at university the academic vernacular had it's pet words. Deconstruction (after Foucault and Derrida) was one of them. In this context it's the remains of an old wharf or pier.

At GLBRC, engineers and enzymologists are collaborating to design new ways of deconstructing plant biomass into its component sugars. Alkaline pretreatment strategies like AFEX™ are successful at loosening the tightly-packed cell wall components to increase access for enzymes, that further break down cellulose into simple sugars.
