By making reference to the Victorian era in this set of photos I wanted to use multiple reference from literature and paintings to create a modern articulation. I started with the Bible as a starting point; Judith being marched off by two guards after she beheaded Holofernes. To compose these group portraits I took an interest in how figures were painted during the Romantic Era; a very gestural pose with a certain stiffness that makes the figure appear self-aware and their gesture intentional, I feel it creates a tension with the spectator, a concept that stuck with me in John Berger’s Ways of Seeing, and an interesting idea to explore between paintings and photographic images.
Built in 1922 and no longer used as an elevator the elevator is now owned by Rocky Mountain Grain Products. It was upgraded a couple of years ago to save it from demolition. The other two elevators were demolished in 1973 and 1999. The Alberta Wheat Pool agent's house still stands across the tracks in Maybutt.

I ended up wearing my new orange shirt today. :) I had an extra hotel stay last night due to me leaving Florida later than I anticipated, so I had to wear it today. HBM!
The surreal baker. She has no hands, no arms, no body. But she manages a cherry outlook and a yellow cookie tin. How many cookies do you see?
