On my way back home above Denmark.

I so desperately wanted to be a ballerina when I was a little girl. So, my mom enrolled me in classes. It was a matter of weeks before I told her how much I hated having to point my toes all the time, and that was that. I do have an old picture of me with my jazz hands and spirit fingers, though :)

I love zombie day! This is for FGR as well as 366.

Itchy.

Tasty.

[edit - explored! Hurray, thank you!

Day 161/365

I haven't done anything with food colouring in a while. These are small vials that contain medication that I take. The medication is extracted with a needle, which is how I filled them with food colouring. Although I wiped them down with a damp cloth, they still seem to have a lot of fingerprints on them.

For this shot, I put the vials on a glass table and lit them from below with a piece of black poster board as a background below the table. I didn't quite get the shot I was hoping for, but I do like the reflections and colours.

Day 161 of 365

Also Week 21, Assignment 2 for Take A Class With Dave and Dave.

I've been dying to try it again, and now is the time for Art Recreation Redux. our old friend from week 8, I said then we should hit this again during the spring, and here we are!

I looked and looked and finally settled on doing another Magritte; one that I didn't think anyone else would tackle. All in all I am happy with how it turned out. I changed a few of the elements to fit them to me (I don't drink wine), but it is pretty true (well as true as I could get) to the original.

161 / 365 - I'd rather be surfin'

(on black)

Let me introduce this pimpalicious rubber duckie. "What exactly is a function of a rubber duck?", asks Mr. Weasley when Harry Potter joins him for dinner. Yeah, what is it? What is it that makes the rubber duck so special? And why is it a duck? I think I've seen more than 100 movies in which the rubber duck was used for a comic relief. Most notably, an episode of "Jeeves and Wooster" (if you haven't watched it, you're missing out on something special).

So anyway. Today I was biking home and was absorbed into deep thoughts about Riemann problems and low Mach numbers. Suddenly I found myself looking straight at the butt of a girl who was riding in front of me. She wore those almost-see-through black leggings, kinda like black stockings - you can see the skin (well, sort of), but they are black at the edges. I'm sure she knew all that, but what she probably didn't suspect was that it looked way different while biking - everyone was treated to a full 360 (not counting the black thong). I think I almost crashed into her when I surfaced from my scientific musings, cause I rode way faster than she did. And after i looked at her I almost hit a pole cause I remembered the Queen "Bicycle" video and started laughing.

And now I feel like I need a vacation, and I have only one working flash left cause the batteries in everything else croaked. That's where the surfing rubber duck comes in. Did you know that the gesture the duck is making means "booze" in Russia?

Walk the line: They all laughed.

Our Heirloom roses are amazing. They continue to bud and bloom although there are just two buds at a time. (Not a large plant).

Not really lazy, as my wife and I were hosting a cocktail party that night for our neighbours. We wanted to thank and celebrate 15 years of good neighbours with a little party. In the middle of the afternoon, we took a break from the preparations.

There's no way I would have taken a shot like this a year ago, if it wasn't for the 365. It' forces you to see things a little different. BTW, this wasn't stage. Just a photo op waiting to be shot.

Kids riding a 12 ft drop with a smile ;) He's been skating since he was 2yrs old.

View On Black • I liked it... But thought the other one was cooler, much funnier. Btw, in this shot my mom didn't realize she was in the reflection of the mirror, we laughed so much about it. But I PS her... I'm sure she's really happy about that. hehehe

I was holding a presentation today on facing up to reality but I totally lost my face.

Shot for "Our Daily Challenge" on the theme "Faceless".

Today's shot: I feel that I don't use my 35mm lens enough, so thought I'd do so with today's shot. Hope you like it. :-)

My life is pretty damn sweet. I have a gorgeous, caring husband; I have children who delight and amaze me with their beauty, energy, and creativity; and I have a job where it's considered perfectly acceptable to wear bunny slippers and dance around with a stuffed animal on my head.

But my life also involves taking care of the needs and demands of others non-stop from the time I wake up until the time I fall into bed at night, seven days a week. Because of this, there are times when I feel so overwhelmed, so drained and exhausted, that time seems like an endless loop of deja vu. And that's when I think: "No wonder I feel so drained ...there is no longer any part of my life that belongs to just me."

As soon as I think that, I begin to feel guilty. Here I am, surrounded with so much love, when there are so many people in the world who are alone and lonely, who long desperately for family and children and the company of others. And so I close my eyes, and rest for a moment, and remember to count my blessings.

But still sometimes I dream of time to myself, quiet and alone.

I don't think it's the wisest thing for a hayfever sufferer to be lying around in the grass trying to get as close as possible. Especially as they are in full bloom.

June 10th. I think this probably counts as faceless. You can't see much anyway. Late one from me as Karate tonight and then kids stuff. This is me in my karate hoody and wrap rounds, do I look scary enough? This is sooc , not even cropped. Gotta catch up with your pics before hitting the sack

It seems that suddenly, we're experiencing summer weather here in our corner of the world. Last summer was absolutely perfect and idyllic, and I'm not sure we'll ever have another one that nice again in my lifetime, but right now, I'm just a few days from starting summer break. I love this time of year when it seems that the lazy summer days will stretch out into infinity and I know that Bunny loves it, too, because we have all kinds of time together. In this picture, what she is actually smelling is a summer storm that rolled in just after we got done with pictures. We didn't miss it by much.

In keeping of the theme of the week in the 365 Group, I'm in search of "faceless" portraits. I sat in the yard for a while today in my pink sun hat, with both cameras handy, waiting for the hummingbirds to visit the new blue feeder. We had to take away the older red feeder and place the blue one in the same position. Now they've found it !

Three more faceless selfies (or are they selfless facies?) in the top comment boxes.

If you follow me and the project you know that sometimes I get carried away. Sometimes I have an idea that just screams "pain in the ass" from the second it pops into my head. Today was one of those days. I was sitting at my kitchen table surfing the net looking for interesting shit. I had come across a graffiti art site that had some of the coolest wall art I've ever seen. While looking through that site the idea to do another rain shoot popped in my head! I immediately knew the perfect little girl to model. Natalie, Daughter of Cristina who was in Day 63 with her husband Eric. Natalie isn't new to the project as she participated in Day 54 as the lonely little girl on a swing. She is cooperative, willing and patient. She follows directions and isn't afraid to get wet or dirty.

Today I planned on soaking her to the bone with a garden hose and compositing her in front of an old abandoned house. I've been wanting to use this old house in one of the days and today was the perfect opportunity. Built in 1901 this victorian style wood framed house sits on what appears to be 2 acres of land with River access. It was heavily damaged during the hurricanes and since abandoned. The sale price is 250k and because of that price and the rumor that its haunted it has sat vacant and falling apart for years.

As soon as I decided that the house was the backdrop, I jumped in the car and drove right out to it. The sun was setting fast and I snapped way too many shots of the house before it got too dark. I normally wouldn't mind the dusk look but since the wind was blowing at around 15mph, a long exposure would end up blurring the trees too much. The background ended up being a 3 shot HDR with heavy desaturation and reduced brightness. During shooting, a man stopped to tell us not to buy this house as he was going to and found out it was haunted. I like to believe the whole ghost thing because its pretty cool. But never really seeing a ghost makes it hard for me to buy into it all. However, I wouldn't like to see a ghost tonight so whom ever controls irony, I'd appreciate if you don't screw with me tongiht.

When I told natalie that she would be in front of a scary haunted house in the final picture, she actually got scarred. Just the thought of a scary house was enough to freak her out. I remember when my imagination was that strong! Just one thought for a split second was enough to freak me out for hours! Now of course I have gained a somewhat better control over my imagination. However, at times, it still gets me!

The foreground was shot in my front yard. 3 lights were used to illuminate Natalie. The 8 foot ladder was drug out and the hose was held up high letting the water naturally fall onto the umbrella. After I was confident we had the shot I asked Natalie to let the umbrella go and let the water fall straight onto her. Apparently her mother failed to mention this to her. She looked shocked but again, willing! She went right back to her mark and after a little directing was ready to get wet. The water was once again aimed at her. I snapped quickly as it was not warm enough to stand under the hose. The wind was blowing and the temp was only 75. She would get cold pretty quick!

I ended the shoot but not before getting some background rain shots. I knew I'd need to composite in more rain later and didn't want to find myself short on the water. Combined with a background rain plate I shot earlier in the project, I had enough rain to work with. The final shot had 3 rain elements, one background, and the foreground. Now, this was very difficult as compositing in images with varying amounts of small specks of water is not at all easy. I had a lot of light spill on the grass thus illuminating it and making the rain that fell over the grass useless. If it's not on complete black than I can't use a blending mode to knock the background out. Masking out individual rain drops is futile and frankly, I don't have the patience.

I would have had the shot up a few hours ago, except, I wanted to try my hand at compositing in a full body shot of Natalie. I'd say out of all the photoshop techniques, full body composites are my biggest weakness. It's not really that I can't do them because I have. Its just that they require a lot more planning. Camera angle, height and tilt have to be considered. Shadows and highlights have to match. Light placement is a lot less forgiving also. The Mini Scrabble game required a lot of planning and there was no rain involved. I'll try again and hopefully soon I'll master that area of compositing.

So I leave you with Day 161 - Abandoned.

Rainy day at the trailer.

The St. John's Co-Cathedral in Valletta is an unexpected gem. The exterior looks like much of the rest of the fortified city with it's plain limestone walls but the interior is adorned floor to ceiling. Built in 1577, under the direction of the Grand Master of the Knights of Malta, the church is dedicated to the patron saint of the order, St. John the Baptist. It's quite an visual adventure to walk through this place and it's one of the major tourist draws in Valletta for good reason... and at six euros for entry, it's one of the best tourist bargains around.

01 April 2008

Today was a great day – had a decent day at work, got out and took some pictures at lunch, actually went to the gym and ran 4 miles, came home and got a killer migraine. Then, I remembered I had to take my picture for today. So really, it doesn't express my day very well, just the last 10% of it :)

I know sometimes I can be absent minded, but where the hell did I put my stethescope?? Ha! This is baaad, sorry I was on a 24 hour shift at the hospital and this is what you get.

June 10, 2015: 161/365 (2718/2992)- Glinda was excited that we were obviously staying home together so she could follow me around all day and maybe go swimming, Mother Nature had other ideas with a morning of heavy thunderstorms. While I dabbled on the laptop she just looked bored on the other couch. Dharma was curled next to me asleep, perfectly happy to be there, and that's the difference in our two goldens.

Day161 of 365 travel memories was taken at Swanbourne beach in Perth

Day 161: I used to frequent a popular eatery called The Hat when I was in high school. They have delicious pastrami sandwiches and "wet fries." As if fries weren't unhealthy enough, these fries are smothered with gravy. Back in those good old days, many a night ended with such a meal. Tonight, at least, my taste buds relived those glory days.
