Flag of Iceland

Take a look at my other flag images here.

May 28th. I thought it was a good idea at the time but this was so difficult to get right. Several attempts. This was my fave in the end.

Two rowers head up river on early morning kayak.

Blueberries: Up, close and personal :-)

The left turn lane from Pages Road to ANZAC Drive floods every time it rains, and gets closed. The whole intersection was rebuilt a couple of years ago (after the earthquakes) but they did not get this bit right.

Now, the trouble is that the City Council looks after Pages Road (heading off to the right) while Transit New Zealand is in charge of ANZAC Drive as it is deemed a State Highway, and they can't agree on who is responsible for fixing the bits between them.

For We're Here - A day for our friend Ricko

Thinking of you and your family, Ricko.

“Though this time

Feels like its never ending

Time will help and heal

These moments will pass

So raise your head, and take up your heart

Hold it closely to you

And the tears and pain will fall away

Like blossom snow

You will know

That you can be your own best friend

The sun will shine again.”

This is my new picture for my 365 project and for the weekly theme "Double Exposure" and for my new 100 X project.

My challenge is to find any X signs, symbols or crossing lines.

Day 148 2015

Common blue damselfly female. I found her hiding amongst the daffodils sheltering from the wind i presume.

This definitely gets 10/10 - for lameness and unoriginality. My mind was a blank and this is all it gave me!

i find it absolutely impossible to hold still when i hear "home" by edward sharpe and the magnetic zeros.

it's around 56F today, and coupled with the sunshine, it's quite mild compared to the bone-chilling weather we've been having here lately. sometimes it's nice to just tromp around and be silly in your yard on pretty days.

Day 148 of 365 (Year Two)

For Take A Class With Dave and Dave I had to take a bokeh shot. I took my shot and got it posted in time and then needed to shoot my selfie for the night. Didn't really have anything planned for tonight so I figured I'd stick with the whole bokeh theme and take a shot with a little bit of bokeh.

First try at the panning weekly theme. A lot harder than I thought. Plus the fact that I'm following joggers with the 5D didn't help. Loved the look on this dog's face. Couldn't keep that in focus but liked the pure joy that still shone through the blur.

Every person on the planet is rich. Either material things - money, fast cars, expensive clother or abstract such as memories and feelings. I'm on the other side and I just get by with emotions and beautiful memories from lovely Sandefjord, Norway.

This photo I took in the moment when I sat on the ocean pier and watched the landing airplanes.

I liked the way the light was falling on this leaf that had fallen in our garden. It was glistening from the rain that had fallen on it and I loved the way this curled enabling me to see the veins really clearly.

Pieris brassicae, the large white, also called cabbage butterfly, cabbage white, cabbage moth (erroneously), or in India the large cabbage white, is a butterfly in the family Pieridae. It is a close relative to the small white, Pieris rapae.

The large white is common throughout Europe, North Africa, Asia even through the Himalayas

We're Here - Fathers

These treasures remind me of my father, Gordon C. Odlum (1914-1992), keeper of Triple Island, Race Rocks, and Point Atkinson Lighthouses.

The barometer had a cute reference in my grandfather's diaries. Apparently dad had asked for a barometer for his birthday when he was just a boy. They gave him this one, bought second-hand, I believe. Dad always tapped on it before he left for work in the morning. It was a ritual that was just part of my impression of "home".

The brass telescope has a similar story, but I don't remember which diary it came up in. In any case, Dad was born in 1914 and the engraving on the telescope says W. Watson & Sons London 1904, so it was certainly second-hand too. Perhaps military. Dad always joked that he could see around corners because it was so banged up and bent.

The photo is from 1969, and the red chair (which was always referred to as the "red chair" even though it was reupholstered four times before I inherited it, in blue, green, and two browns) was always his chair. I had it recovered in this beautiful red fabric as an homage to its original 1950s fabric.

Los Angeles, New York, Seattle ... and there's more to come. This is Meggie's snow globe collection from my travels in the past few months. I just got back from Seattle last weekend, and in 10 days I'm heading to the US again. This time I hope to get a snow globe with San Francisco's Golden Gate Bridge in it. And I hope to run across the bridge too.

Those in the flickr flock might be interested to know that Spicyspiral (Kate) and I were conducting a side project for the first few months of the year. That resulted in a column I wrote for yesterday's paper - to be honest, Kate deserves a joint byline. If you have a minute, you'll find it here

Well, I went out to read for a little while when I got home from work, and sure enough, when I got up to get a drink, I returned to find that someone else had laid down there. *sigh*

Project 365: day 148

TOTW: Rage, Anger, & Aggression!

Tuesday's Truth: I got suspended from high school for half a day in my sophomore year. I had pushed a girl down some bleachers for calling me a whore. the thing was that we were fighting over the fact that she called my best friend (her former best friend) a whore. I told her to take it back and she said,"well you're one too!" one thing lead to another and she went down some bleachers. and the worst part was... they became best friends again. Talk about some flaky people. Well you live, learn, fall, and get back up. Now that I'm in college and have rarely ANY time to spare I cant afford to waste my time on flaky and fake people. I just dont have the energy to devote to childish HS tactics. Why do some people carry their high school behavior and drama into college? Why does maturity take so long to harness?

Day 148 ~ 365.2015

ODC ~ Woven for 05.28.15

FGR goes introspective today. Thirteen things to know about me. Yes, it's a long list. No, I don't really expect you to read it.

1: Disenfranchised - I have come to hate political parties. And lobbies. And unions. Anything that represents solely their own interests. I'm okay that you & I can be of completely opposite beliefs. In fact, I may like you even more because of it. I lean to the left on a lot of issues, but my dad taught me that there are always three sides to a story - your side, my side, and the right side.

2.Disenfranchised part deux: Religion. I no longer align myself with any particular religion. I left the church I had been an active part of for over 15 years about three years ago. Same reason as #1. If we all are moved upon by the same spirit to believe sometimes completely different things, how can you or I stand there and claim truth? I'm not anti-God or anti-religion. I just believe we all have spirits that are pointed our own way. And whatever made it that way probably got it right.

3. Respect. I can't call a woman the "B" word. Or anything like it. I get mad at T when she & her girlfriends call each other that. Same rules apply to the "N" word. Even bringing it up now bothers me, because you just said the words in your mind. Dammit.

4. Music. Proof that I have a soul. And we are connected on some paranormal level. I can listen to modern rock like Chevelle, Three Days Grace, or Seether. Then I can put in John Denver, KD Lang (Hymns of the 49th parallel - amazing album), Jack Johnson. I'll listen to Rap, Hip Hop, Emo, whatever I feel will get inside me and accentuate the mood I'm in today.

5. Adventurous: One of the mantras I live by - If I mightlike something, why wouldn't I? That goes for music, food, people, activities. I try not to judge something or someone until I've tried them on for size. Not everything fits, but the more I can like, the happier I'll be.

6. Caliente: I love spicy food. I once ate a habanero that garnished a burger that was so damn hot, my mouth went numb for the rest of the night. I'd probably try it again.

7. Community: Inconsiderate people piss me off. Stealing parking spaces, keeping the change the clerk gave you even when you knew it was more than you were entitled to. We're in this together. And it comes back around.

8. English minor: I'm a grammar & spelling freak. Especially in print media, signs, or anything going to the public. It depends on the venue. I wish people knew that "she & I are going to the movie, but they brought the popcorn to her & me."

9. Parenting: I worry about finding the balance between pushing my kids too hard and not hard enough. I need to guide them and teach them the things I believe to be important without trying to mold them into mini-me's. Which is worse, a-hole dad yelling at the coach to put his kid in the game, or couch potato dad who doesn't really give his kids any real encouragement?

10. Long winded: I love lists. They're about the only junk e-mail I'll participate in and forward on.

11. Dreamer: I see big things. I'm not always the best at follow through. I can see a grand finish and map out a plan to get there. It's overcoming myself on a daily basis that prevents me from accomplishing more.

12. Age: I'm finally to the point where I don't feel "young" anymore physically. I believe I'm young at heart - who doesn't? But I see pictures like this and I look my age. My body doesn't heal as quickly as it used to. I had a couple injuries that kept me from running all year. It's okay, just different from where I've been, and a little hard to accept.

13. Flickr: This place has come to mean a lot to me. I signed up as a way to share pics with family members around the country. Then joined a few groups and ended up with a couple contacts. Then I started my 365 project. Then I joined FGR. I think it was Bitca who said something like, "some of you people are more real to me than some of the people I work with". I totally get that. I have some amazing friends here that I have never met - and quite likely never will. Somehow, you are in my heart though.

So there.
