Typical May evening in Nebraska. High humidity and warm temps were returning to the plains.

Cells were to form to the west north west of Kearney that evening. We had a few rogue storm cells, small but were building and shooting off just a ton on cloud to cloud lightning just to the north of my location.

Trying to get out of the city lights, so I could get some long exposure without all that ambient light. Found a little notch along the highway, and parked. OK, not the best with they power lines in the frame, I know I could photoshop these out but I think it helps give depth.

A relative newcomer on the scene, DarkClouds grew up in Vermont and now lives in Boston where he removes street signs and repaints them with his signature style dripping clouds and then re-introduces the signs back into the landscape.

Clouds, prairie, cottonwood trrees, and colors -- that's Colorado.

May 3, 2012 - Kearney Nebraska US

Storms were to develop early afternoon but the dry line stalled. Late afternoon into mid evening the dry line pushed just to the west of our location.

With unusually humid conditions for this time of year in South Central Nebraska, this produced the perfect conditions for supercells to develop just to the southwest & west of Kearney Nebraska.

Rarely do we get to see the full development from nothing to a full fledged supercell and this one had fast development resulting in some of my best storm photography for 2012

High ISO, so very grainy, but I ran it through Photoshop after Aperture to try and smooth it out a bit!

hypocritical's annual dark cloud award for the person who feels most desperate to spoil April Fools' Day fun

Snow falling from dark clouds with the sun barely visible.

This was the scene here at 6:30 this morning. We were under a tornando watch and it was storming like mad. We were called out on a stand-by to a possible house fire caused by lightening.

When we arrived this is what the sky looked like. The thunder clouds were trying to break up and the blue sky was trying to peak through.

More storms and warning today. I swear, I'm going to start building an ark just as a precaution.

An old picture I dug up, taken one evening during April 2004.

I took a leisurely, one hour walk home from work today and got all kinds of new pictures for my sticker-art/graffiti exhibit next month. I'm going to go broke matting and framing them, I think.
