Today some heavy thunder clouds crossed our path.. fortunately only a few drops came out.

Nascer do sol sobre as Ilhas Desertas/Sunrise over the Desert Islands

Yesterday we went to a river nearby Haiming (Austria). It is always beautiful to go there by sunset. The clouds have just more expression and you don’t have to handle with high contrasts. Thanks Lys for standing there and enjoying the view : – ).

Sick of blue skies, to be honest. We need rain badly. The country is starting to look like a desert.

Taken last year.

Patches of very strong sunshine on the remote Upper Teesdale farming hamlet of Langdon Beck with Cronkley Scar behind it.

passing at Cuxhaven, arriving from Hamburg in September, 2025.

Widdop Reservoir, Lancashire. With interesting skies....

Now, with a little help from Michael Lawlor - THX -, I think those clouds are undulatus asperatus aka asperitas. Anyway, it was a fascinating spectacle with skies like a mixture of snowdrifts and puff pastry, and at the end with a brilliant cloudburst.

This Awesome CG Lightning Strike would be the tale for the rest of the night.

This particular strike blew out the power transformers that evening to the entire west side of Kearney. This was the strike that did it. It look like 4th of July at the power station located right where this fork hit.

Power to the Kearney High School (lower left) was out so was the hospital to my left (which you can't see) its why I came to this location.... due to the lightning strike.... now city lights were out!!! Couldn't have asked for a better opportunity, so I took advantage of it...Pure Eye Candy!

Editors Note...

Once a year a pull out a few sets from years past to start of the new year. In 2024 this year I have went back & revamped one of my favorite severe storms photo shoots of 2018

Back then I over colorized & over saturated the images. Pixelated & not my best work... Images were what I wanted but not the final product. If you want to see those to compare to these remastered images... here is your Flickr Link to that set of images...

But these are Gems of Gems.. I've even added about 50+ images in this set that I wasn't able to work on back in 2018. I even made a video with the old images to kick off the 2023 season... You can watch this right here on Flickr... Click Here ** Please remember I used the old images in this video **

Lightning is my forte... It is why I chase storms. To have an photo opportunity come up like this & traveled only 6 blocks from my home to get these pics...Gotta Luv Nebraska!

About that evening...

An epic night of sunset light and storm light @ twilight. Its almost every storm chasers dreams... or at least, in my own opinion, to get along side of a storm like this, as its firing away some incredible CC & CG every few seconds. What more could you ask for...

I was that Lucky Guy that evening. Just mother nature and I. Close to home after a few long storm chasing jaunts is just fine by me. She was producing and I was capturing every incredible second of this storm.. No Forking Bolt went away that evening without me getting a snap of its presence..

Some spectacularly dramatic lighting conditions on the upper dale as seen from Bail Hill above Mickleton, on New Year's Eve 2025. The foreground in shadow is the bottom end of Lunedale. Illuminated in the middle distance (L>R) are part of Holwick and East and West Force Garth farms a little further back, Forest in Teesdale further away and Ettersgill to the right.

This was taken about 4 pm this afternoon. It had been storming off & on all afternoon. This is looking southwest from the 6th floor of the building I work in.

These clouds had the most amazing hues of blue and other colors last night - not quite this dark, but intentionally underexposing brought out the colors more. SOOC. Please view large!

A rapidly changing formation of clouds sweeps over the Wachusett Reservoir from the northwest adding some drama to the December sky.

A slice of Upper Teesdale in dramatic light between heavy squalls as seen from Stable Edge. In the spotlight from left to right are Hield House farm, Force Garth quarry a little further away with East and West Force Garth Farms to the right of it, and most of Ettersgill at the right of the picture. The next set of heavy squalls are advancing and starting to obscure Cronkley Scar in the distance.

Right on time... Nice billowing thunderheads forming early afternoon. Nice structure on these storm cells forming just to the east of Epcot that afternoon!
