I took this photo when I was at a low point in my life. I feel the tone of the photo, especially the clouds, matches my feelings at the time, dark and angry with light trying to push its way through.

I Seriously, wasn't going to go out this night... Had a weeks worth of hell, and I really just wanted to do was get off work and go home. I was tired, I was cranky, it was the first weekend I've had off in a Month...
As soon as I pulled into the driveway @home, I could hear the weather radio going off and my storm capturing sensation came over me. Listening to the bullitins coming over the radio and I Freaked!. The storms were closer than I had thought. NWS just put warnings for Northern Buffalo County for super fast development of strong to potentially super severe, with large hail, and possible Tornadoes.
Photography Chance of a lifetime... Even though someone could cast me as a member of the Walking Dead....I was a trooper and I didn't wimp out! Luckily I had the my camera on the charger... Grabbed all my equipment & I hauled A** North... 20 mins later I found myself in the perfect spot, under the perfect conditions!
Cresting over northern Buffalo County, ready to cross between Pleasanton & Ravenna Nebraska, this cell was rapidly building and already had tornado warning on it. Incredible CG lightning in front of the storm cell was just to good to capture, with lighting firing off every few seconds.

After missing out on a couple of fantastic sunsets this week, last night I thought I'd better make an effort to get down to one of our local beaches. Thunder and lightning were rumbling above the cliffs and heading out to sea pretty quickly. I had a small section of sky with some colour so the rush started to find some foreground interest which lead to the colourful area and the setting sun.

SOOC. Intense colors before a storm. Colors saturated in-camera; intentional underexposure to get the colors to stand out.

It's a massive achievement for me...I never thought an amateur could make it to explore!
Sharing Exposures - Decisive Moment
The clouds were drifting away from the sun. At this moment when I could have the most of the sun from the clouds I clicked the picture. I played around a little with the colours to give it the burning blaze and voila!
We had a wonderful weekend at the beach but It did rain!! Thanks Mike!!! This is the only sunset that I could get.
This was a refreshing find. :)
Edit (Jan. 6/09): Having driven by since, this photo is now nothing but historical evidence.
Peaked at #111 on Explore! Thanks for making me feel interesting! :)

Yesterday was raining all day and turned quite stormy at night. Yet, in the midst of all these dark clouds, a saw a splash of colours.

A wicked bad day of severe weather in South Central Nebraska. For more information on that day... NWS Official Report.
A tornadic supercell with an Ef1 or Ef2 tornado struck the city of Kearney late afternoon. The aftermath wasn't pretty. I sure wanted to be out chasing but I was scheduled for work, and missed the entire historic event.
Power was out, but I did have the camera batteries charged. Geared up, with camera in hand after I got home from work. I took a few minutes during clean up that night to capture these incredible cloudscapes that were on the back side of the storms.
These were the final rays, the last light of the day. These clouds were truly some spectacular stormscape captures to end that day of severe weather!

Thank your for visiting and your kind comments.

More information: The clouds were scattered at first, then it suddenly blacked out, some of the rays were penetrating the clouds making beautiful and amazing patterns on the sea below. It actually looked like lava on water.... This is 1200 m above sea level overlooking the Corinthian.

Mars lijkt zo ver, maar dat valt reuze mee.
I was wondering ...

Check him out, he's awesome ...
That golden Orb just rolled along the clouds, both above and then re-appearing below. It was a great evening for watching as the sun disappeared below the horizon.

Weak storm cells developing to the southwest of Kearney and into my backyard. Another stormscape photo opportunity awaited.
When the storms are off in the distance...
Even though I wasn't chasing the storms that afternoon. Being close to home means that I'll get a chance at capturing some interesting storm cloud structures. Late May storm towers off to my southeast... & the cloudscapes coming up from North Central Kansas would be simply surreal that evening.
