I was seriously late the game on this storm. But I was never out of the game. I had missed a few of the other tornados that afternoon in Northern Yuma County. Coming from south to north I had to position myself correctly. Chaser Convergence was also in full swing so there were not may open areas to choose from.
For best pics of a Tornado and to be safe about it a storm such as this was moving North by Northeast... strategically, you want to be to the south east, southwest for the best light... Behind the RFD (Rear Flank Downdraft) It's all about timing, and I honestly didn't think it would produce a tornado til it was well west of my location. That was going to be the wrong guess... Though when I went due north of Wray I had a good viewing point but not in the safest location as you see.
I got lucky this day as...In my opinion, I found a perfect view, looking due south southeast. I ended up on the northwest side of the rotation. Dangerous yes...but this will eventually give me one excellent view of this tornado and all her glory.
Staying as safe as I could I wouldn't bail till it was about a mile away then I would head north again to a safer / better viewing position.

Greetings Everyone, I haven't posted many new pics since last chase season and the 2020 Severe Weather Season is upon us. Looking for our first set of storms in the coming weeks and I'll be streaming live and of course some of the best storm photography one could ask for.
2020 Update...I've been revamping how I do things. One of those things is to go back and correct how I did my post processing of images. Several Years of over Colorizing over Saturation Adding color... etc. Yes I'm guilty of doing so and I have been going back and replacing thousands of images in hundreds of sets over these past few months here on Flickr my Fine Arts America Site.
The May 7, 2016 Colorado Tornado Event was by far one of my favorite chase days to date. I was able to capture the full genesis of a tornado. From birth to death. It was a quest of mine to do this in a photography medium. Epic severe weather structure, like once in a lifetime structure to capture. But post processing was a nightmare. The images came out well ... Defined but over colored over saturated etc.
Instead of replacing the images this will be a whole new set with a few hundred new images that I didn't post on the original set back in 2016. I've thought about re-editing these images for a long time and they are finally done. No Altercations what so ever. No Added Light, Color, Contrast.
I've brought them directly from RAW. Simply the way I should have done it in the first place!

Now your gonna think I'm absolutely out of my mind... but I drove into that first cell to get to this one... In storm chaser terms is called punching the core... I was more than safe. The cell had been downgraded. Yes I went through some hail and torrential rain.. but that's what I do & I do it safely. When there is a will there is a way.
The storm was dying and I had to get into position for this next incredible cell moving out of northern Buffalo County.
Now I've caught some incredible lightning this year.. so instead of say it was my best.... It was simply JAW DROPPING FREAKING INCREDIBLE AWESOME DELICIOUS lightning.

I Seriously, wasn't going to go out this night... Had a weeks worth of hell, and I really just wanted to do was get off work and go home. I was tired, I was cranky, it was the first weekend I've had off in a Month...
As soon as I pulled into the driveway @home, I could hear the weather radio going off and my storm capturing sensation came over me. Listening to the bullitins coming over the radio and I Freaked!. The storms were closer than I had thought. NWS just put warnings for Northern Buffalo County for super fast development of strong to potentially super severe, with large hail, and possible Tornadoes.
Photography Chance of a lifetime... Even though someone could cast me as a member of the Walking Dead....I was a trooper and I didn't wimp out! Luckily I had the my camera on the charger... Grabbed all my equipment & I hauled A** North... 20 mins later I found myself in the perfect spot, under the perfect conditions!
Cresting over northern Buffalo County, ready to cross between Pleasanton & Ravenna Nebraska, this cell was rapidly building and already had tornado warning on it. Incredible CG lightning in front of the storm cell was just to good to capture, with lighting firing off every few seconds.

saint john the baptist on charles bridge in prague. my cousin monica took a similar shot, and i couldn't resist giving it a try...
thanks for the new title, G!L!
47 degrees, 33 mph winds and a giant hail storm right before the shoot! I'm not sure how Sabrina made it happen in conditions like that but she sure did.

Last few weeks of chasing was extremely fun... though its good to be close to home. It's of course where I'm most familiar with the terrain and most of all the atmosphere. This would be one of my beginning phases of Lightning photography for 2018.
Lightning is the main reason why I started storm chasing. EVERY opportunity I can get, and folks the formula has to be perfect...its not easy capture Epic lighting shots. As many as you see, I have about 30 that you don't. Shooting lightning over the past 30 years... I have my own way to capture it. A learning experience that is still in session.

Taken at Hervey Bay last weekend. All the rules are broken in this image, rule of thirds does not apply and the horizon is in the middle! Nevertheless I still like it and I hope that you do too.
On Saturday evening I decided to go to Sandy Point, Hayling Island, Hampshire to have a go at capturing the sunset.
The weather conditions were not favourable with lots of heavy black clouds but with some breaks on the horizon, the tide was low providing interesting reflected light on the wet sand!
I decided to try and add some drama to the composition by going for a long exposure using a Lee Little Stopper ND filter to provide some movement in the clouds!
74 second exposure using Lee Little Stopper 6 Stop ND filer with 0.6 ND grad over the sky.
Thanks for any comments you may wish to leave.

I know....I missed 12/365...not much going on that day and I was feeling lazy. BUT! after a week without rain, I couldn't miss getting a shot of the huge storm clouds that rolled in.It made two of my lily plants so happy that they bloomed in the night. (So prepare yourself for the lily pictures later today)
I was hiking from Tannalp to Engstlenalp in the Bernese Oberland, when a thunderstorm was approaching from the East. But I was lucky. It started to rain only after I had reached the Hotel Engstlenalp, where I could relax and get a cold beer. The rain afterwards was really heavy.
Thank you for your visits / comments / faves!
