• For We're Here! — "The League of Extraordinary Journalers"

Today is International Day of Happiness. I was personally very happy to find my old journal that i started when i was in school. I used to carry this with me everywhere and jot down ideas for concepts, things i wanted to shoot (either for school or not), inspirations. The particular pages in the image on the right show my notes and "mind map" for a school assignment that ultimately generated one of my favorite images: this photo of Patrick.

Nowadays, i make notes wherever i am in the fantastic and irreplaceable Evernote, but there's something about the physical act of writing/sketching on paper that electronic devices will never replace. Maybe i'll start carrying a notebook again...

Be happy today!!!

Warm, summer sunshine spills through the broken roof of this abandoned Welsh woollen mill, deep in the woods. A magical place, frozen in time, with the wool still on the spindles and shelves.

two weeks ago - they were already past the cutest stage

I arrived here in mist and rain, couldn'd see anything of the mountains. Never the less I walked the 2 miles from the carpark to the rescue shelter at the base of the lake. The fog shrouded the mountains and I still couldn't see them. The rain slowly started to ease off and I could begin to see the dark shadow of the mountains through the mist. With the weather forecast in mind I decided to head off up into the cloud to the top and wait it out. On getting to the top I had about a 20 yard visibility. After a couple of sandwiches it started to brighten from above but still no view. As I was rummaging through my bag for a chocolate bar I sensed something had changed behind me. It was the light. The fog had suddenly lifted and started to break. Within about 15 minutes this view was before me. #waitingforthelight.

The morraines left behind by the glacial action that formed this valley can be clearly seen in the centre of the image. These are left by receeding glacier ice flows.

The New Forest in Hampshire is my idea of Heaven....everything is abundant and covered in moss and the colours in Autumn lift the soul ;-))

WIT

I was for my work in Copenhagen, Denmark, the beginning of this week. And while walking from hotel to meeting place I spotted this beautifully coloured old house with a few bikes parked (Denmark is even more friendly for bicycles than The Netherlands!). And thanks to the assignment I also noticed the Dappled Light... So everything was perfect, except for the fact that I did not bring a camera other than my smartphone. In post a bit color correction but for the rest SOOS.

A Great Crested Grebe swims perfectly into a pocket of sun light during sunset creating a lovely dappled look.

Bit of an experiment of weirdness...not sure really but sometimes I like things to not always look as they should do to the minds eye...

A lovely garter snake taking in some warm autumn rays. At first he was fleeing from me, but I reassured him I meant him no harm. So he stopped and let me take a bunch of pictures. When I moved on, he was still there, relaxing.

Grand Canyon National Park

The South Rim

Arizona, USA

The Colorado River snakes itself through an eastern stretch of the Canyon under dappled Autumn light.

The Grand Canyon was formed over millions of years by the erosion caused by the Colorado River.

The canyon is more than 200 miles long 12 miles wide and a mile deep. The national park is visited by about 6 million people a year. On a clear day, like this one, it is possible to see for 100 miles and the distance across to the North Rim seems to shrink.

There are always visitors at the South Rim of the park, but during the winter season, it is possible to find overlooks with few or no other visitors. One can find a sense of serenity when viewing a scene like this especially when viewing it alone.

This is the house where I spent some part of my childhood with my grandmother (not the one that gave me the bottle of liquor but the other )..I have such sweet memories here, too! When I went to see it two months ago, I was so surprised and delighted to find it renovated ! It looked so charming..

My grandparents used to live mostly on the second floor and the one upstairs from it.

Below is me sitting at the door of the same building ages ago:)

Ingrid was out for a walk with her baby and faithful four-legged companion.

The dappled sunlight presented a challenge as it could either make or break the picture. Somehow I managed to wrangle the scene with mother, baby and dog into an interestingly lit picture that I think captures the relaxed and friendly moment we shared as we collaborated on this portrait.

Thank you, Ingrid.

'BACKLIT WORMS.'

For me, a very welcome sight this Spring at a canal close to home. Although I've heard Song Thrushes singing there in the past, I'd never seen one. I so hope this individual was successful in raising young in the more rural setting and managed several broods.

Hard to believe these beautiful birds were everyday visitors to my garden decades ago ...

The Londonist:

"Tower Hamlets Cemetery is unlike its Magnificent Seven brethren. Despite being set up by some of the wealthiest men of the Victorian era, it's not crawling with celebrity and extravagance like Highgate or Kensal Green. Tower Hamlets Cemetery instead functioned as a burial ground for London's working classes. It quickly filled and ceased as a functioning cemetery in 1966, but still remains a cemetery park"

Hello, It's been a while since I've posted on any platform, but the recent springtime conditions have inspired me to get back out there again. Here is a panorama with some afternoon dappled light on really green hills and a rainbow. My favorite everything.

Happy Friday!

Thanks for looking.
