Found in my warderobe as I was moving out of home in 2000, I rediscovered it while in the attic this week!! Dating from the late 1970s the Dandy Airline Album was free when you purchased 10 packets of Dandy Airline Stickers!!!
Today kids have Match Attacks albums and everything else under the sun......apart from an Airline Album.
Its interesting to see that naturally some of the airlines have disappeared, but also some of the countries have too disappeared from the format there were in in the 1970s....
most probably the dandy of the group with his all-golden-teeth and wearing gold rings on his fingers ...

There are some moments on this trip when I looked really cool and dramatic and outdoorsy. This was not one of those moments. I looked goofy in that outfit, and the helmet didn't really fit right. It was comfortable, but it sat weird on my head. I think in this picture, standing here all jaunty-like with my ice axe, I look like I should start a dance routine to "Putting on the Ritz."
See those spikes on my boots? Those are crampons, and that's what made it possible for us to walk around on the ice without slipping down a crevasse. There's a technique to walking on crampons -- you have to bend your foot so that it's always flat against the ice, no matter how awkward the angle -- but once you figure it out, you'll stick to practically anything. I kind of wish I had some crampons like these, but we don't have any glaciers in Illinois. (Anymore.)
We eventually ended our hike by circling around to that yellow base camp tent you saw next to the helicopter in the first tour picture. We expected the helicopters to be there, ready to take us home, but they weren't. They'd gone down the mountain, and the guides said that fog had rolled in, and the helicopters might not be able to fly. This would mean we might have to spend the night up on the glacier in the tent, and I can tell you, I was kind of hoping that would happen. But then, I didn't have to worry about my cruise ship going off an leaving me, so opinions varied. It turned out, we were only delayed maybe a half-hour. The helicopters came zipping back in and dropped off the next tour group, and we went back to the Juneau airport. And that was the end of our Mendenhall Glacier adventure.
