- Star-Lord (Guardians of the Galaxy) having a dance-off with Cisco Ramon (Vibe from "The Flash" TV show). Just do a google search for these characters dancing and you'll see why this came together at the last moment.

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the annual outdoor Battery Dance Festival went virtual this year, like so many other performances.

So there was no live festival and most of the international dance companies that participated did so via video.

But NYC let the Festival film a handful of the performers live, albeit in the very early morning, as a way to discourage curious onlookers. These are some of the companies that participated; but this necessarily is a very small sampling.

African percussionist performs to a large Portuguese crowd on the classical streets of Lisbon. He pulls a beautiful young woman from the audience and presents her to the crowd for a dance. She stands ready and nervous as the crowd anticipates the beat of the drum. Unexpectedly a young African boy joins the nervous girl. Let the dance begin is gestured from the young woman as she lifts her arms up to initiate the drum beat. The little boy surges with excitement as the first few notes stiffen his body as he feels the music. And the beat goes BOOM! BOOM! BOOM! The boy rears in excitement contorting his body like a spring ready to dance down the street. The girl in perfect rhythm sways her hips in time lifting her hands up to pull in the beat. Her motion is light and playful as she grabs the crowd’s attention. Her swagger is smooth and rhythmic. The drummer breaks into a complex orchestra of percussion with his found instruments. A soulful sound resonates across the crowd as they clap and cheer. The boy can’t help himself. With a grand stomp and stunning smile he joins his dance partner. His swagger sways him side to side. The boy stomps his feat in time. The crowd cheers with laughter and praise for the young boy as he cheeses up to the spectators with arms behind his back. His attractive dance partner starts to lean back as the music sets her free to step into her dance. The crash of the pots resonates off the renaissance buildings as the beat of the drum is heard for kilometers. The crowd claps, cheers and supports in dance along the circle of ever growing spectators. The girl shaking her body as they danced round and round with joy. Clapping their hands and shaking their stuff. This is Lisbon street dancing. The once nervous girl blossomed into a energetic and limber dancer motivated by her petite friend and warm enthusiastic audience.
