Great White Egrets are always lovely, graceful subjects...but when poised in the midst of dance they are bird beauty personified.

Something a bit different tonight :-) These were some dancers at the Dunedin Midwinter Carnival lantern parade which was postponed l till tonight because of rain. It was magical as always but very hard to take photos of...well for me anyway :-)

Gotipua dance vandana performed at Odisha Parab 2025 in Bengaluru.
The Gotipua dance performance traditionally begins with a Vandana (prayer or invocation). It is a customary offering of prayers and gratitude, typically directed to: Lord Jagannath (the presiding deity) and other gods like Lord Ganesh and Saraswati.
Awa Odori, also known as ‘the dance of fools’, comes from Tokushima Prefecture on the island of Shikoku. “Awa” is the name of the feudal province which later became Tokushima and 'Odori' mean dance.
According to tradition, Awa Odori originated in the 16th century after drunken revellers took to dancing in the streets of Tokushima in celebration of the completion of Tokushima Castle.
While there is no firm evidence to support this, the exuberant, often frenzied nature of the dance is in keeping with the story’s theme of drunken revelry. Traditional lyrics to the music used for Awa Odori translate to “The dancers are fools and the watchers are fools; if both are fools, you may as well dance”.
Although its home is obviously Tokushima (its Awa Odori is one of the biggest street dance festivals in the world, attracting around 1.5m spectators annually), other major Awa Odori include those held in Koenji in Tokyo (which now almost rivals that in Tokushima for size) and in Minami-Koshigya in Saitama prefecture, photographed here.
Although much smaller than its cousins in Tokushima and Koenji, it still attracts around 800,000 spectators...
This damselfly caught my eye because she looks like she was crafted out of metal. Bronze with some pewter and a touch of aqua paint on the underside. With glass wings. God is an artist.

The glass part of the Dancing House is used to represent dancer Ginger Rogers.
The Dancing House, or Ginger and Fred (after the dancers Ginger Rogers and Fred Astaire), is the nickname given to this building. It was designed by the Croatian-Czech architect Vlado Milunić in cooperation with Canadian-American architect Frank Gehry on a vacant riverfront plot. The building was designed in 1992 and the construction was completed in 1996.
Gehry and Milunić developed Milunić's original idea of a building consisting of two parts, static and dynamic ("yin and yang"), which were to symbolize the transition of Czechoslovakia from a communist regime to a parliamentary democracy.
In the building is the Dancing House Hotel and on the ground floor a café.

White Sunday is a national holiday in Samoa falling on the second Sunday of October, with the Monday following a public holiday. It is a day for parents and communities to acknowledge and celebrate childhood by hosting special programs during church services which include scriptural recitations, biblical story reenactments, and creative dance performances. Children receive gifts (often new clothing and/or school supplies) on White Sunday and are allowed privileges normally reserved for elders, such as being the first to be served food at family meal time. Some say it started back about 1920 to remember the many children who died when flu spread to Samoa killing nearly quarter of the population.
