Designed and built in 1929. The ballroom was a major venue for bands of the 1930s and 1940s. Built in an Art Deco styling with an Aztec theme. At 5600 sq feet, it was meant to hold around a 1000 couples. The maple dance floor was built on springs to give the dancers a bounce as they moved.
After closing around 1958, it reopened in the mid 60s as a concert venue. With shows a couple times a week, bands such as the MC5; The Stooges; and Ted Nugent and The Amboy Dukes played here. Soon the doors closed again.
Also more recently featured in a the Eminem movie, "8 Mile".
It now sits empty, neglected and dilapidated like many other historic locations in Detroit.

'Het Speulderbos' is called ' the forest of the dancing trees'. The forest is not just mysterious, it is also very rare. It's a paradise for birds (of prey), deer, badgers and wild boars. So there is enough choice to have a good time!

With the evening light coloring the clouds a hue of yellow, it seemed a nice backdrop for this tree. The angle chosen showed the branches extending and gave the illusion of a dancer in the evening light.

Raven and me wanted to take a dancing picture together since the first day we met hahaha ~ (not kidding). Finally we managed to do this and it was so much fun to shoot and to edit this picture. Today it's all about the Engine Room - a Steampunk inspired event that's open from the 20th of September till 20th of October. Pure joy to watch the artistry that these Native American dancers displayed at this Powwow. These men dancers are brothers. The fabulous colors, the drummers and the pure excitement that one feels just being here.
