Way back in June 2012 there was a fund raiser for the performing arts in Wasilla, Alaska. One of the organizers was desperate for a photographer and asked me to shoot the event - I never pass up a chance to shoot with belly dancers so I said yes! This set contains shots from the dress rehearsal on 15 June 2012; some of the performers were in costume, some were not, but it was still a great event. Even though most of the performers are Middle Eastern belly dancers, the theme for this show was cabaret life in Paris around 1900 - so there were a lot of cool new costumes.
I took these photos in Wasilla, Alaska, in June 2012.
My granddaughter at dance class, Dec 17 2011. They only open one class for the adults to view every year. I guess it's like a Christmas present. I took a bunch; this and the ones below in Comments were my very faves. Try large.

Gloucester Carnival - 16th September 2007.
This parade was initially called off due to the serious flooding Gloucestershire suffered in July. These enthusiastic participants looked truly delighted to get a second chance two months later - and the sun shone!

It's said that, the older you get, you're better spending your money on experiences rather than on things. I've been doing photography for more than fifty years now and people photography has hardly featured at all so when I received an email advertising a Dance Photography Workshop in Edinburgh I jumped at the chance and signed up right away. The course promised that it would take you out of your comfort zone and it certainly did that but I had an absolute ball.
The morning started with a warm-up session and then some instruction. The plan was that each photographer would be matched up with a dancer, sent out into Edinburgh for 30 minutes to collaborate and produce some location images. Unfortunately they were one dancer short for some reason so I worked with another photographer and dancer Lily from Australia. Lily was brilliant. She was full of ideas and up for anything (including climbing on top of a massive skip!). Here are three images from our first morning session.
A night off from viewing ancient ruins in Siem Reap, Cambodia !
A group of beautiful dancers demonstrated a variety of traditional dance movements as the tourists consumed a superb buffet !
We went with friends to a night club somewhere in League City or Baytown called Big Texas. Unfortunately, I have managed to psych myself out when it comes to dancing to the point where I don't know if I'll ever get over it.
When Amanda was recovering from knee surgery, she psyched herself out over getting her foot over the threshold at the back door. It's only an inch or so high, but lifting her foot was incredibly painful, and her real fear was that she would either bump her toe on it, or slip on her crutches, and tear her knee up again. She would stand at the threshold, trying this way and that to figure out the best way to get her foot across. It would literally take 20 minutes to go in or out of the door, which was wide open in the dead of what passes for winter here.
In the end, whether she went over it foot first, or backed over it, she had to lift her foot to get across. And the issue went on and on, even though the threshold and her need to cross it never changed. There WAS no good way to do it, but that didn't stop her from balking, and trying to find a way around it.
That's how I feel about dancing now. Intellectually, I am well aware that nobody gives a damn if I suck at it. I know although there are 'steps' that should be followed if you want to dance 'country-western', there are WIDE latitudes and lots of room for interpretation - unless you plan to dance with strangers. Then the rules kinda count a little more, or there's gonna be a train wreck. (wink)
But for some reason, my psyche has built up this wall that keeps me off the dance floor, and it pisses me off. Not because I give a crap about getting out and dancing. It pisses me off because I know Jo Ann would love to go out dancing, and unless I do, she won't.
But mostly it pisses me off because I don't like limiting myself just because of the bashful gene I was born with.
