Rouen, France 🇫🇷 : Seen on Pierre Corneille Bridge over the Seine River, a C2 Citaro of Fast 3 line.

Can't resist these - one is slightly darker than the rest - no boxes but they are quite good otherwise .

I once bought 8 Red Superfast Daimler No.74's back in the 70's when I was lot younger when on holiday in Weymouth - threw the boxes out - if only I had known .

Glasgow Corporation Transport often vied with Birmingham City Transport in terms of who won the crown of the biggest municipal transport operator and as I know both cities, and their erstwhile bus fleets, both had their charms. Birmingham's usually immaculately turned out fleet boasted a sober livery of dark monastral blue and cream - Glasgow, as can be seen, had a superbly flamboyant livery based on various layouts of green, orange and white. To say they brightened the streets of the great commerical and industrial city is an understatement and I wish the 'powers that be' would adopt something as iconic instead of the presnt drab shambles. Anyhow - in the late 1950s Glasgow went on a buying spree, largely dictated by the abandonment of their renowned tram system, and purchased many hundreds of conventional front engined vehicles before turning to the 'new' Leyland Atlantean. Here can be seen two examples of Alexander bodied buses delivered from two of the three 'chosen' suppliers; D258 being a 1959 Daimler CVG6 and adjacent is Leyland (or as badged "Albion") Titan PD3/2 L405 of 1960. Both carry registration index numbers in the "SGD" block that GCT had reserved alongside the "FYS" sequence. Whereas Birmingham managed to get theirs in matching fleet and registration number Glasgow didn't.

In the background is the site of the St Andrew Square bus station used by SMT/Eastern Scottish and one of their deckers can be seen emerging from the portal gateway that was later replaced by an over-site development (that housed the offices of IBM my Pa worked in, whilst I worked as a conductor in the bus station below!). The bus is one of the Daimler CWA6's that was delivered during the war with a utility Brush body, as fleet number G77, but that was later reconstructed by Alexanders and became, in the post-1951 fleet renumbering, 377. Edinburgh's 1950s love of full-fronted bodywork can be clearly seen on this bus - it is running on the 11 to Fairmilehead.

Again - a card from the late A C Jamieson so, apologies to the original photographer.

"At your service" - West Bromwich Corporation Transport Department, based at the town's Oak Lane bus garage, was a relatively small operator but, to my mind, were a smart set up as they took me to school and town in the 1960s. For many years the chief glory was the livery - most unusual for a municipal operator in that for the most part the complex, lined out two toned blue and cream survived without simplification until the Department was merged into West Midlands PTE's fleet in 1969. Pictured here are veraious of the Daimler buses that were the mainstain of the fleet for many a long year, A Witcomb Smith's pride and joy! One oddity - the printer's obviously got carried away - 'folding map of City transport services' - West Brom was never that big!

Quite the survivor this -originally delivered to London Transport during WW2 as a ‘utility’ bus this 1944 Daimler had a Duple double deck body and was D27 in the fleet. The Utilities bodies were not the best built, given wartime pressures, but the chassis were seen as a good buy by many operators when LT withdrew them. In 1952 GLX 913 was bought by Southend Transport who fitted a new bodywork by Massey and used it in service until 1962. It survived as a police support vehicle and is now preserved in the Ensignbus fleet and is here on a running day at Upminster.

This time, we applied the colors that are hits used in the world of graphic design in the form of logos, banners, posters, billboards, packages (drinks, food, clothing, transportation) in the era after "World War II" after (1960's-1970's) in the country European countries, especially in Switzerland, France, Belgium, Austria, Italy, Germany, Denmark, England. They have enough to bring a big influence on the development of the world of graphic design until now, the color is still have compatibled. But, the question is, who wants to use these colors?

A fine scene of one of Walsall's finest - EDH 631C, fleet number 31, which was one of many 'different' buses Walsall took into stock over the years as their General Manager (Mr Edgerley Cox) was an inveterate experimenter - this is a 'short' chassis at 27' 6", and has an unusual Northern Counties dual door bodywork, replete with white window rubbers. As a child who went shopping in Walsall in the late-60s, there never seemed to be two alike of these blue buses and Walsall/WMPTE were equally capable of various reconstructions over the years to make things even more fun. It is also a nice shot of Walsall town centre with period shops and cars!

A view from a war Transport report into street layouts. A Birmingham City centre view here with a couple of Birmingham City Transport buses - a Daimler up front - and standard BCT stops on the pavement. The bus may be AOG 690 - if not that precisely, it is one of the batch. That would make it a 1935 Daimler COG5 with a Short's body as the batch was fitted with coachwork by several builders.

I'm not certain - but this may be Bull Street with what was Grey's Stores behind as I think it was partially blitzed.Grey's was still on the go, although it felt shabby, when I was a lad in the late 1960s.

The BMMO, aka Midland Red, tended to build their own buses, and so purchases of other manufacturers vehicles was less than usual - I suspect Daimler were blowing their own trumpet as the Midland Red Daimler Fleetlines get quite a spread! Various images of the batch of Alexander bodied Fleetlines (including I think 5287 HA) are seen at various points on the company's 159 Birmingham - Coventry route - "intercity" transport along the A45! A page from the city's annual "Official Handbook" for 1939 in the Transport section. Birmingham City Transport was one of the various municipal trading departments that at the time also included the city's gas and electricity departments, both amongst the UK's largest undertakings. Employing over 8,000 people the Department had, on 31 March 1938, 701 tramcars, 863 motorbuses and 78 trolleybuses housed in nine tram depots and eleven bus garages along with central tram works at Kyotts Lake Road and buses at Tyburn Road ; the city was aiming to rapidly phase out trams and replace them primarily with motor buses as this section shows.

Seen here is a photo of the 'latest' type of motor omnibus; CVP 153, 1053 in the fleet, being a 1937 delivery of Daimler COG5 chassis with a Metropolitan-Cammell-Weymann body, one of numerous similar vehicles from the late 1930s that were in many ways the city's 'standard' bus. It is seen billed as being on the 1/1A route to Moseley that was often the scene for official photography as well as for 'new' buses, rumour having it that it was the route the Department's General Manager's house was situated on.

In general Daimler's chassis were very highly regarded - and I won't get drawn into the debate about London Transport's experiences with them as I grew up with the world's biggest Daimler fleet of Birmingham City Transport! - but a less successful foray was the Roadliner, a part of a 1960s attempt towards single-deck 'standee buses' that included the AEC Swift/Merlin family - enough said.

PMT ran in the north Staffordshire area and here is seen, in a posed shot, their Marshalls bodied Roadliner 6000 EH.

Ledgard's were a famous independent local bus company in the Otley, Leeds & Bradford area for many years - famous for their purchase of many second-hand buses. This grainy press clipping from 9 March 1956 shows bus on the Otley town service to Newall coming a cropper on a fallen tree in Manor Square. The bus looks to be an ex-London Transport Daimler 'Utility. ' - Ledgard's bought various ex-London Transport wartime buses in 1953 - on the original it looks as if it may be HGF 897 which would make it a 1946 Daimler CWA6 but I daresay the knowledgeable out there might be able to confirm or otherwise.

The Town Hall Photographer’s Collection is a large photographic collection held in Manchester City Council’s Central Library archives, ranging in date from 1956 to 2007.

The collection consists of tens of thousands of images, covering the varied areas of work of Manchester Corporation and latterly, Manchester City Council.

The photographs were taken by staff photographers, who were tasked to document the work of Corporation/Council departments and, in doing so, captured many aspects of Manchester life and history, including significant changes to the Manchester landscape.

The collection includes many different formats from glass negatives, to slides, prints, CDs and even a couple of cine films.

What is especially exciting is that the majority of these images have never before been available in a digital format and therefore have only ever been seen by a handful of people.

A team of dedicated Staff and Volunteers are currently working on the systematic digitisation of the negatives held within the collection.

This album represents the result of their work to date.

Leeds nearly always supported the city's 'own' coach and body builder of Charles Roe, and they produced some fine buses as this stylish Fleetline shows - less 'boxy' than some, and smart in the two-tone green livery. Leeds were a big municipal operator, and bought from all the major chassis builders - this Daimler was on a 30ft chassi and had a Gardner engine. Startips were part of the 'Stardrops' washing up liquid empire - oh, those glass bottles with the cork tops!

A rather fine shot of one of the 27 foot, rear entrance Daimler bus chassis (this is a CCG5 type, with a more unusual 5-cyl Gardner engine) and Massey body operating in the small Burton-upon-Trent municipal fleet - fleet number 88, BFA 588B looking very smart.

A view from a war Transport report into street layouts. A post-war shot showing the fancy 1930s street lighting that graced the 'Civic Centre' and up into Broad St. Some of these held on until the 1970s, albeit with simpler GEC lanterns. I'm minded that Revo made the columns - and possibly the early lanterns as seen here - as they made the curved top ones at the Civic Centre - but on the other hand, these could be GEC Specials. A Birmingham City Transport Daimler bus is making its way towards Five Ways. The street shows isgns of wartime - the base of the lamp posts being painted with white stripes to help during the blackout when this street lamp would have been switched off for the best part of 5 years.

Daimler, based in Coventry, built many fine bus chassis over the years - this double deck chassis, bodied by Brush, was exhibited at the Olympia Motor Show of 1931 and was built for the West Hartlepool Corporation Transport Department. The Corporation were one of the smaller municipal operators and eventually in 1967 it was amalgamated with Hartlepool's transport department.
