Out in the garden between showers on #30DaysWild day 20, spotted this Dagger Fly.
No exact species ID for this one, it's a member of the Empis genus but I don't know which one. They get their name from the impressive dagger like snout used to prey on other insects.

Scottish writers and it seemed every story was decided by some sword dagger saber scenario... and I had discussed with this friend my child hood experiences with a scottish mother who seemed to have a similar mind set.
