Combination of two shots one for sky that was shot taken at Mt Eden about 7 months ago flip it over in PS and second shot slected with selection tool and flipped over and then applied Flood filter to get ripple effect.

This is one of the most interesting and beautiful caterpillars I have ever seen. It is about two inches long.
Thanks to Albertaleps, i found out that this is the caterpillar of the "Smeared Dagger Moth" I did some google searches and found out that this is one of the most poisonous caterpillars in North America. The spines have a toxin that can cause severe pain and swelling, as well as an allergic reaction in humans.
I think the bright colours and wicked spines are a good warning to possible predators not to touch it.

Back to the bees, this time a type of Cuckoo bee which I've come across before, these are a cleptoparasite of mainly Amegilla genus, which were present at the same site. Found several of these mid-sized bees clamped to old stems in the early morning.
Best viewed very large.

To avoid predators a lot of caterpillars rely on camourflage, but some, like this Grey Dagger Moth caterpillar, advertise warning signs. Apart from the obvious dagger, by its striking red and yellow colouration it also signals it's poisonous to eat. This one appeared on a blackthorn bush in my garden, one of its host plants.

What a Monday. Internet chaos, work organisation on the phone... WiFi had been down since Monday noon, and has just now miraculously reappeared. My upload of this MM contribution also "failed" yesterday, and the image just appeared today (Tuesday) in my stream, so technically, this is now for "Macro Tuesday".
Anyways, here is a still life of some of the most basic and universal seasonings: salt, pepper, and, for those of us who like it hot(ter): chilli.
The "diamonds" in this scene are the salt crystals, of course, because in the Middle Ages, salt was often more precious and expensive than gold. For people who can't eat that spicy, the pepper corns sit in between, and might already qualify as a "dagger". Which brings us to the true dagger in this scene: a dried Trinidad Scorpion chilli. And what possessed me to buy these, I don't know. Or rather, I do: a possible future MM use, and the future was yesterday ;)
