Indian, Mughal period (1526–1858) This piece is made from steel and gold with dimensions H. 18 7/8 in. (47.9 cm); W. 3 7/16 in. (8.7 cm); Wt. 1 lb. 0.2 oz. (459.3 g). The culture dates back to South Indian, Mughal time period. George C. Stone, was the artist behind this dagger made in 1935. This stunning and detailed dagger has a medallion engraved at the top of both sides on the handle. The purpose and description reads "Help from Allah and a speedy victory. So give the glad tidings to the believers" which comes from the (Qur'an 61:13). On display at The Met Fifth Avenue in Gallery 379.

So the story goes...My grandfather was a medic stationed in Germany during WWII. He helped a German family get antibiotics for their sick child, in return they gave him this. He hid this in his boot when he came back to the US. We don't know what it is, could be a dagger, or a letter opener. It's amazing nonetheless.
