[Mitte, Alt-Berlin] - Il Currywurst è un würstel bollito o grigliato, che viene servito di solito tagliato e condito con una salsa a base di ketchup o pomodoro e polvere di curry. Il currywurst sembra sia stato inventato da Herta Heuwer il 04/09/1949 al suo chiosco all'incrocio tra Kantstraße e Kaiser-Friedrich-Straße a Charlottenburg: era un würstel bollito con una salsa fatta di polpa di pomodoro, curry in polvere, salsa Worcester ed altri ingredienti, salsa che nel gennaio 1959 ella fece brevettare col nome di Chillup. Successivamente il chiosco si trasferì in Kaiser-Friedrich-Straße 59 e divenne una vera e propria istituzione. La Kraft cercò di comprare il brevetto ma la Heuwer si rifiutò. Dal 2003 un'iscrizione ricorda il luogo (oggi Kantstraße 101).

Currywurst

Eine Brat- oder Brühwurst, die frittiert oder gebraten wird und mit einer Ketchup- oder Tomatenmarksosse mit Currypulver und Paprika bestreut serviert wird.

1949 wurde sie von Herta Heuwer auf ihrem Stand an der Ecke Kant-/Kaiser-Friedrichstraße erstmals serviert.

2009 eröffnete sogar das "Deutsche Currywurstmuseum" in der Schützenstr. 70 in der Nähe vom Checkpoint Charlie currywurstmuseum.com/
