A close-up of my egg cups in gloss white. Hand thrown in stoneware. I've mentioned these before in a photo below but I just blogged about them again today - and this picture shows the glaze in detail (and it is Easter...)

Clay cups: water and milk; full fat buffalo milk.
Chai is also served in these little clay cups. They are considered disposable: when you are finished your chai, you throw the cup in the refuse. If it smashes nicely, you will have good luck. Mine smashed beautifully, every time. :-)

I tested the capabilities of my 40D and 70-200mm f2.8. ISO 400 to get the 2nd fastest shutter speed to freeze the tennis ball mid air. I love the result. View large on black to get the most out of this shot.
When I came to Yahoo!, I noticed that when sporting events like the World Cup of Soccer (and Cricket) were on, you'd find huge crowds gathered in the coffee bars and cafeteria, and when your country was in the finals, shit stopped. Dead. People would schedule meetings around the games. I always found this intriguing.
Most people of the Western World wouldn't find this intriguing at all. In fact, it would be quite commonplace. I think this caught my eye because we Americans don't have things like this that weave throughout our social fabric so completely. Aside from natural disasters and acts of terrorism, nothing pulls America together as a community like this. When do we put on our Red, White and Blue and chant like maniacs? Maybe I just don't see it because I live in a blue state. I suppose The Olympics might do it, but not everyone one comes together for the Track and Field 400m hurdles. It's still not quite as thorough.
I was watching the supplemental materials for The Office (UK) last night and noticed that "shit stopped" when The World Cup came on. This was a documentary of the production, so this was real life! It's an interesting pattern that doesn't seem to follow in the USA.
