This wonderful piece of architecture can be found on the outskirts of Sandend next to Glen Glasshaugh distillery. Built in 1761this was the Glasshaugh Windmill, this being the only surviving remains of the building from that time. As such it has been protected due to its historical and architectural significance. It is know locally as "The Cup and Saucer"!

These tiny Eyelash Cups (Scutellinia setosa?) are growing on a decomposing Black Gum log in my yard. Some species of Scutellinia can grow to 10-20 mm in diameter, but these were only about 1-1.5 mm. In the preceding photo, the head of a pin that I pushed into the wood gives a sense of scale for these minuscule ascomycetes:

I got the expanded DOF while retaining reasonable sharpness by making a focus stack of 9 images taken at f8 using Helicon Focus (running on a Nexus7 tablet) to control my Canon 7D. You just pick the near and far focus points and (based on the f stop and lens used) the program takes the appropriate number of shots for a good focus overlap. No more guessing the focus overlap, jostling the camera while manually changing focus, etc.. Also, the tablet makes for a nice large monitor that's much appreciated by these aging eyes!
