Iris, a winged messenger of the gods, stands next to a flaming altar. She holds the kerykeion (or caduceus), the messenger's token, in her right hand and writing tablet in her left. Below her right wing is written the Greek word "kalos", meaning "handsome" or "beautiful".

"Eucharides Painter" is the common nickname of an ancient Greek artist who decorated but did not sign attic vases. Neither his real name, nor the dates of his birth and death are known. Presumably this artist was a pupil of the Nikoxenos painter.
The name was introduced in 1911 by John Beazley, a classic historian at the University of Oxford who had a special interest in attic vases. Through close examination of stylistic details, Beazley and other scholars recognized pieces painted by the same artist. In this case, the nickname appreciates the anonymous painter's repeated use of kalos inscriptions praising the beauty of a named young boy. A vase with the inscription καλος Ευχαριδης ("kalos Eucharides", i.e. Eucharides is beautiful) became the source of the artist's name.
The Eucharides painter was working in Athens in the years from about 500 BC to 470 BC. At this time the technique of vase painting switched from black-figured to red-figured illustrations, a process commonly attributed to the Andokides Painter. Correspondingly, both black-figured and red-figured vases are attributed to the Eucharides painter. Their shapes range from large kraters to small cups. Scenes were drawn from mythology and daily life.

I've named this my kindling bowl because it's made from some scraps that I had that would have been used for kindling a fire in my wood burning stove had I not used them for turning. The wood is pine from some stair treads that I installed last year. It's about 7" tall and 5" in diameter. Based on the shape and size I guess it could be called a vase or just a vessel.

Sanbeiji, or 3 cup chicken, is a classic Chinese dish you don't often see in restaurants. Something similar may be passed off as "Basil Chicken" using less wine and sesame oil.
Stir fry 1.5lbs of boned chicken thighs cut into thirds, a head of whole garlic cloves, some fresh or dried Chinese or Thai chiles, and 3/4" of thin sliced of ginger until chicken is lightly browned. Add 2TB each of sesame oil, soy sauce, and rice wine (mijiu or shaoxing), and 1/2 cup of light chicken stock. Cook over medium until the liquid has reduced by 2/3rds and chicken is cooked through. Turn off heat and throw in a handful of ripped basil and stir some more until basil wilts. Serve with steamed rice.

Plants are multicellular, photosynthesizing eucaryotes. Most species occupy terrestrial environments, but they also occur in freshwater and saltwater aquatic environments. The oldest known land plants in the fossil record are Ordovician to Silurian. Land plant body fossils are known in Silurian sedimentary rocks - they are small and simple plants (e.g., Cooksonia). Fossil root traces in paleosol horizons are known in the Ordovician. During the Devonian, the first trees and forests appeared. Earth's initial forestation event occurred during the Middle to Late Paleozoic. Earth's continents have been partly to mostly covered with forests ever since the Late Devonian. Occasional mass extinction events temporarily removed much of Earth's plant ecosystems - this occurred at the Permian-Triassic boundary (251 million years ago) and the Cretaceous-Tertiary boundary (65 million years ago).
The most conspicuous group of living plants is the angiosperms, the flowering plants. They first unambiguously appeared in the fossil record during the Cretaceous. They quickly dominated Earth's terrestrial ecosystems, and have dominated ever since. This domination was due to the evolutionary success of flowers, which are structures that greatly aid angiosperm reproduction.
The claret-cup cactus occurs in hot, rocky, desert settings of southwestern America & northern Mexico. When in bloom, the flowers are intensely scarlet, sitting atop stumpy, cylindrical, highly spinose stems. Like other cactuses, this plant lives in arid environments and has features that conserve water. The spiny, green, stumpy stems of cactuses are photosynthesizing. The leaves of cactus ancestors have been modified by evolution into spines.

"The claret cup's cylindrical stems are usually clustered together and often appear in a mound. Scarlet flowers can be seen blooming on this cactus in April and May. Unlike most cacti that are pollinated by bees and flies, claret cups are pollinated by hummingbirds."

I don't know if the pink, red, and brown cups are melamine but I remember similar ones when I was a kid in the 60's and 70's. The yellow ones have metal handles and has the letters NFC inside a circle and Pat.Pend. numbers.
