Nigella damascena

The famous Greek physician Dioscorides used black cumin seeds to treat headaches and toothaches. The reason might be found in the complex chemical structure of the seeds. These little seeds have over one hundred different chemical constituents, including abundant sources of all the essential fatty acids. Though it is the oil that is most often used medicinally, the seeds are a bit spicy and are often used whole in cooking—curries, pastries, and Mediterranean cheeses.

Wishing you all Health and Happiness !

Because today is Easter Sunday, I'll skip the other pictures of the icy and snowy Alps that I took and save them for later. Instead, I continue the journey and come to something much more spring-like.

We are here in Lombardy, a region of Italy. Here I kept discovering such poplar forests on both sides of the autobahn. I was so surprised to see them that I stopped my tour to take a closer look. And I have to say, especially now in spring, they are a great photo motif.

The young, still yellow leaves of the poplar trees gleam in the sun and on the ground there is a carpet of beautiful yellow and white wildflowers. My guess is that the yellow flowers are mustard and the white ones are cumin.

Since I took a few more pictures here, you will soon learn more about these forests.

For today I leave it at the presentation and wish you a happy Easter.

The "Jungfer im Grünen", which used to be a common cottage garden plant, has a number of German names. These include Gretl in the Stauden, Gretl in the Heck, Gretchen in the Busch, Greterl in the Nest, Venus-Haired, Bride in Hair, Damask Black Cumin, Damask Caraway and Garden Black Cumin. It is not related to caraway or cumin, but belongs to the same genus as black cumin (Nigella sativa).

A staple for me is sea salt, Herbs de Provence and cumin. Not all at once, but those are my favorite spices when cooking. I also never knew spices were considered condiments. HMM everyone!

Macro Mondays-- "Member's choice: Seeds"

Cumin, oregano, garlic powder, paprika and (onion powder to be added later) for taco seasoning. The kitchen is smelling wonderful with this mix.

Seeds of Red chilli pepper, Walnut , Pistachio, Pumpkin seeds, almonds, Ivy gourd, water melon seeds , Cumin seeds and mung bean (Vigna radiata) sprouts.

Used some bean sprouting roots to highlight the wonder of creation !

I liked this quote by Debby Boone " Dreams are the seeds of change. Nothing ever grows without a seed, and nothing ever changes without a dream " -.

Seemed so apt for this week's MM challenge.

I placed the seeds on a slice of watermelon to give it the pink background.

"It happens when the body is anatomy of time"

A very nice smelling work of art, filled with clove, cumin and turmeric (NL: kruidnagel, komijn, kurkuma).

I know it was Hazel's adventure in Gogerddan, but I just had to sit on this mushroom by myself. It's just right for sitting on. Not too hard and not too soft.

Hazel told me the mushroom's actually the dinner table for the magical creatures of Gogerddan. I did ask them if I can sit. Honest I did. And I think I heard their voices in the wind telling me I can sit where I liked. I was so relaxed listening to the wind.

But then Cashew spoiled it all. He leaned out our human companion's backpack and told me not every creature in the woods is vegetarian. They've invited me round for dinner, and I am their main course.

I got really scared then. I did not want to be the main course for sharp toothed cannibal fairies. I was about to slide off the table, run to my human companion, and hide in her backpack when the creatures called back to me. They told me they're vegetarian and I'm not on the menu. It was then Cashew laughed and said, 'Ha ha, got you!' because he does like to play jokes sometimes.

Now we're heading home for dinner. There's going to be roast potatoes and asparagus and baby tomatoes and a vegan roast with stuffing. The perfect feast to end an adventure. And you never guess what? All the magical creatures are invited too. They're sliding down a rainbow singing roast potato songs.

'How are we going to make the sun laugh?' asked Cumin as we rested on a log.

We were all pondering the question. It seemed so easy when we spoke to the gnome, but now I wasn't so sure. The sun was huge and bright and fiery – and always seemed so far away. Just how were we going to do make him laugh?

'We could tell lots of jokes,' said Pistachio.

'Maybe we can ask the magical creatures of the river to play a prank,' suggested Cumin.

None of that felt right. There had to be another way.

'If the chariot is laughter that makes the Sol Invictus fly, and we cannot tell jokes or play pranks, what else will make him laugh?' I pondered deeply.

'I always like having fun. That makes me laugh, and we do not tell jokes or play pranks on each other,' piped Cumin.

'And happiness,' said Pistachio. 'The sun is unhappy. Perhaps if we made him feel happy again the chariot will fly and spring will come.'

'That's it!' I gasped, seeing what they were getting at. 'We have to bring fun and happiness to winter!'

Le città e il desiderio. 1.

PS-It's exciting to note that this image had the "honor" of being chosen by flickr as an "EXPLORED" image- what is EXPLORE ??

Explore is Flickr's way of showcasing the most interesting photos within a given point in time -- usually over a 24 hour period.

Flickr receives about 6,000 uploads every minute --

That's about 8.6 million photos a day!

From this huge group of images, the Flickr Interestingness algorithm selects only 500 images to showcase for each 24-hour period.

That's only one image in every 17,000!

Pretty Cool - huh?
