Macy's had a kick-ass sale this weekend, so I got a Cuisinart hand blender that's made some cool smoothies for me so far. :: I thought this tasted pretty good:

Mom sent me her old Cuisinart. I've wanted a food processor for ages, but never wanted to buy my own because it seemed... well, silly. Thanks, mom!
1. Slice one pound(ish) of kumquats on half and scoop out flesh
2. Trim flesh to remove woody parts
3. Throw flesh, 4 ounces of cream cheese, and 4-6 slices of crystallized ginger in the Cuisinart until blended.
4. Using a pastry bag and medium tip, fill kumquat skins and refrigerate until needed.

I picked up a stainless steel Cuisinart stovetop steamer at Target the other day. It will serve when I don’t want to fire up the big one. For my first “test drive”, I used some poultry blend herbs (rosemary, sage, and thyme). I have no ideal what happened to parsley. Also, some pre-seasoned boneless and skinless chicken breasts. I threw in some carrots and shallots and was cooking with steam!
Everything came out tender and moist. I shall be cooking vegetables and poultry with steam much more frequently.

Here's a shot of my Cuisinart SmartStick® Hand Blender. Kind of like a Slap Chop,
but motorized and won't dull with two uses. Also makes salsa in seconds.
Fortunately my Cuisinart Slow Cooker has a brown and saute setting as well as slow cooking. I needed something large for a whole head of cabbage and this was perfect. I tasted the end result and it's very tasty. I think the "steak spice" in this is what really made this special. I also made egg salad and steamed asparagus. It was tasty!

One of my 7 year old twins loves to be "Little Chef". Ever since the movie, "Ratatouille", we have owned this apron and chef's hat that came with the dvd we purchased. On Saturdays and Sundays, Aidan always wants to be "Little Chef" and help us in the kitchen. Today was "Super Bowl Sunday", and the most glorious, sunny and brilliant day in the Bay Area in a while. Everyone was out in DROVES! It was amazing. My Little Chef helped make waffles today, while his Dad went on a planned, "secret" 4 hour hike to see waterfalls with 2 of his co-workers, leaving me home with the kids. So... we had fun, making waffles and going on our own hike at Loma Alta after our yummy breakfast.

today my mom's friend and her 3 daughters came over and we had some holiday tea. it was nice!

All of these brews so far have been from the same grind setting on the same Baratza Virtuoso grinder. Starting to see some patterns emerge. Next time, I do a more static brew like this one, I'm gonna grind a little finer.
