At a farm near Al Nasraniya, this man grabbed the baby away from its mother and it cried and screamed its heart out.
These days, when I know I’m going to photograph a place for the first time, I always try to look online for what kind of images were already made at that spot… In this day and age, when everything seems to already been photographed to death, it’s a challenge to be able to come back with something truly different.
In this case, I found it really hard to go beyond the literal shot. When I was there, this particular framing reminded me of a skull (it’s probably the effect of hearing too much heavy metal music), so I went along with it. Well, making art is about showing others your way of seeing the world, so here it goes…

Sam Perry was the guy that Oprah cried on at Obama's innauguration. Everyone was getting pictures crying on him, so I after I did it, I asked him to cry on my shoulder. Glad he put himself into it.
