The paintwork is peeling off in vast swathes inside this empty chapel/gymnasium and really adds to the decaying sense of the place.

I haven't posted in ages because I haven't been out shooting lately. I completely forgot that I stopped to shoot this abandoned farm somewhere in east-central Alberta....I can't even remember where I shot this. Somewhere between Red Deer and Vegreville is the best I can recall.

Blackberry crumble is really a classic British pudding. It's moderately stodgy, but delicious on cold winter days! (Or for breakfast, I find - cold with cream on it. But that's not a traditional British way of eating it, that's just me ;-))

Put blackberries uncooked into an oven proof dish with a little water to stop them sticking to the bottom and some sugar sprinkled over.

You'll need enough plain flour to give a nice depth of covering over the dish, but measure it out into a bowl using an English tablespoon so you know how much there is. (One rounded English tablespoon of flour is the same as 1 oz.)

Once you know how much flour there is, you need half the weight in butter. For example, 6 rounded tablespoons of flour means you need 3 oz of butter. (Estimating the amount is fine, but if it's your first time, then best to weigh the butter out).

Rub the butter into the flour until it looks like breadcrumbs (same method as for making shortcrust pastry), then mix in sugar to taste. You can also add a few oats to give it a different texture.

Put the crumble on top of the blackberries in the dish and place in the oven (about gas 6 or 7, 415F 210C) for 30 mins or until the crumble is a nice golden colour on top.

Serve hot with cream or custard (or both if you're feeling really wicked!) It's also nice cold.

My Dear Flickr Friends. Just a short note to let you know that this will be my last post in Flickr for awhile. I am looking at several options for displaying my work on line and at the moment Flickr is not one of them. Of course this can change who knows. But I have learned so much from the comments and have really enjoyed following many photographers here. I will still keep my account and will still review my contacts work from time to time. I will continue to post in Facebook for the time being, the account info is in my profile if you would like to follow my work there. LarryB

Barns as most of us know are disappearing fast. Many remaining barns that we see today are in some state of expiration. For the most part they are not needed anymore. A skeleton of a past time, when farmers were self sufficient. Growing vegetables, fruit, and chickens. At one time it was unusual to find a farm that did not have chickens. They were as common as grain bins are today. Farmers today typically focus on a few crops like corn, and soy beans to subtain their existence. This barn is on highway K In Bollinger County Missouri. I could have taken this photo with just the barn, but the road with a curve at the end made such a great leading line that I had to include it, and of course the awesome sky made this a very pleasing image.

I recently discovered a great place for old, abandoned homesteads in Washington state. The area north and south of Highway 2 east of Hartline. The countryside is thick with great old places. Google Maps helped me find this treasure trove.

Where the Blue Fades

Time crumbles like weathered stone,

its dust a pale haze of grey

that settles in the hollows of my chest.

I search for you there—

in the places where light breaks,

then fades like the dying edge of blue.

The sky forgets its color,

its azure skin peeled back to grey.

It is the same with memory:

your voice, once clear as a bell,

now dissolves in the air,

a thread unwinding into silence.

How quietly love unravels—

like mist dissolving into itself,

like waves pulling the shore into their hunger.

You are the distant hue,

a blue I can no longer name,

slipping further with every blink.

In this grey expanse,

I am only the shadow of what was,

moving without rhythm,

waiting for the colors to return,

though I know they will not.

Time, that betrayer,

has stolen even the shape of you,

leaving only the faintest outline

and the ache where blue once lived.

Main chimney on an abandoned house in Madison, Virginia.

The building, called the Valley, was designed by the Rotterdam-based MVRDV firm. It is roughly 810,000-square-foot (72,900 sq m) of mixed-use development comprised of three jagged towers clad in stone and mirrored glass and shrouded with bountiful vegetation. This architectural masterpiece includes 200 apartments. “The geology-inspired” complex is towering over the A10 ring expressway in the Amsterdam’s shiny, modern Zuidas financial district. Late afternoon sun illuminates erosion of the cliffs on the beach close to Bilbao in Spain. The beaches in northern Spain are famous for fantastic rocks and their interplay with the incoming waves. But sometimes the cliffs themselves offer good photo opportunities. Moss covered stone was just pure luck….
