I went to a fancy dress party recently where the theme was Prom. I am not really one for wearing much pink or anything frilly, so iI decided to make my outfit from some rather sweet fabric which is black with little grey skull and crossbones on it. I made the full skirt and the bolero jacket. The skirt was supposed to be worn with a tulle underskirt, however it was particularly warm that day and I ditched the underskirt.
The bolero is fully lined and very comfortable. I think I will be making a few more of these.
I started off using a pattern.... however it was a Japanese pattern... and I'm not exactly built like a Japanese lady, so in the end I had to ditch the pattern and just make it up myself. The skirt and the jacket are both pretty simple, straight forward designs, so it wasn't too tricky :-)

Skulls, crossbones, hourglasses, angels, tools and other symbols can be found on the gravestones in North Leith Cemetery. This burial ground dates from the mid-17th century, and is on a small plot of land beside the Water of Leith in Coburg Street.
It replaced the graveyard beside the North Leith church of St Nicholas (the patron saint of seamen) which was lost due to the building of Leith Citadel in 1856.
People buried in this cemetery include:
- the grandparents of the 19th century Prime Minister, W. E. Gladstone.
- Lady Mackintosh, who raised a regiment for Prince Charlie’s 1745 rising.
- Rev Dr David Johnston, founder of the Blind Asylum 1793 and Minister of North Leith Church for 59 years

The bandannas seem to say biker more than pirate, but the background is a subtle nautical chart motif so it was probably intended to be a pirate shirt.
The shirt isn't subtle at all in person.
Okay, I made this hat because I wanted to crochet the logo of my sister's clothing company, freaksncream.com. And I totally did it! Success! Its a cupcake skull with crossbones.
I made the pattern up as I was sitting in the car in the desert while my husband rode his dirt bike. haha.

The fabric is woven super soft acetate satin brocade with a black background and the skull and crossbones is in a silvery white. The garters are trimmed in hot pink lace and matching black ribbons.
