I've had the honor of photographing some pretty amazing creatures, but none more awe-inspiring than the polar bear. The first time was in Alaska which I can only describe as a true come true and a testament to myself that I could carry out a lifelong dream on my own, to a very remote place (of course with guides). The 2nd time was in Canada, where I wanted to share that thrill with my best travel companion ... my husband. The two trips could not have been any different, though both very exciting. Yes, both times I witnessed polar bears moving freely about on the landscape, but in very different habitats. Like the coastal brown bears that I hold most dearly to my heart, the polar bear has its own special pull on my soul ... I think especially so since it was a childhood dream ever since visiting the science museum and standing next to the polar bear they had on display (taxidermy of course) and feeling so dwarfed by it and imaging the power it possessed. When I caught my first glimpse of one in Alaska, I distinctly remember that I silently gasped and momentarily stopped breathing. I hope that one day I can again see these amazing apex predators, perhaps in a different location ... who knows, but I can dream.
The Galapagos Land Iguana resembles the mythical creatures of the past-dragons with long tails, clawed feet and spiny crests. Land Iguanas have a spiky dorsal crest which runs along the neck and back. They are heavily bodied with thick back legs and smaller front legs.
Land Iguanas have a short blunt head and pleurodont teeth (Having the teeth attached by their sides to the inner side of the jaw, as in some lizards). Its tail is quite a bit longer than its trunk. In reality, these harmless lizards are alive today, but endangered in their own native land.
I am not sure of the species here, but it seems to be some sort of tree creature of the marsh. 😉

Still in a post surgical recovery (it will be a while yet) I cant venture too far from home and have not been ambitious enough to pick up a camera very often. That said, there's no shortage of subject matter with all the garden creatures in our back yard.
Regarding this image, I lost my toned B&W preset when I changed computers last winter and have been experimenting with getting similar results.

This impressive Big Horn ram has more than just big horns. Enough said about that. Jackson Hole, Wyoming, USA, December 2024

Apparently this is what my Doctors Surgery thinks the flu bug looks like. Now I've had this but the "man flu" version. Ladies what can I say, much worse than what you get.
Only kidding. Have a great Saturday. Still raining here in the UK. I think I might start building a boat.

There's a creature in my closet
I can hear him rumbling 'round
The demons screaming in the distance
Creates such a humbling sound
The monster that's outside my window
He's like family to me now
The things that people are afraid of
Never let me down

We came across this strange creature on our long walk today.
There is a sign inviting you to add to his length and people have put more stones behind him but they have not been painted.

This male bird managed to hit the (filthy) living room window earlier today. We placed it our Avian Care Unit (ACU) - a cardbox with a towel covered by another towel in the warmth for 20 minutes and fortunately it made a good recovery.
This shot was taken moments before it flew off.

They’re there, frozen behind the glass, those creature skeletons, silent witnesses to a power they never understood. I don’t need to roar to make a room shake. One unbuttoned shirt, one sharp glance, and suddenly, everything stops. Leaning on my couch, I rule my own sanctuary, poised between elegance and danger. The kind of woman you watch too long… before realizing you’ve already crossed the line. 💀️️️
