Product Shot for WizWow CreativeLIVE

Stuck, fed up and bored. Here I was, thinking I'm so stressed and tired that doing nothing would be amazing. Nope. Not when it's forced. The silver lining: I'm catching up on creativelive.com and I find it inspiring.

Why create if not to transform? Whether that transformation is release, discovery, exploration, or something else, it is vitally important that what we create steals a piece of ourselves and makes it into something new. My curiosity fuels my creativity. It fuels my desire to explore what I don't know, discover what I desire to know, and release what I am done with.

I found this a fitting final image to my series, INTERVAL, which explores the relationship we have with transformation: our natural push against it (and the way that rejection of curiosity can hurt us), as well as our eventual embrace of the unknown.

Follow your curiosity. If you really did follow it, where would you end up? In our heart of hearts, we know. Where would you end up?

I was so happy I got a chance to photograph my daughter this last weekend before she went back for her freshman year at college. We had limited time but I was able to get so many usable shots from the session. We did her senior portraits last year doing work on location but I really didn't get the headshots I was hoping to at that time so now I am a happy Momma.

Many thanks to Sue Bryce and Simona for sharing their secrets with us. Thank you to Sue from giving me that sign I needed...I just need to go out and do this...

I chose to use those shots that were, at least in my eyes, more age appropriate. I think she'd beg to differ. She's 19... and some of her more "grown up shots" are also in the stream.

Okay, first I have not touched this photo. This is my five year old grandson, Mark, with his baby sister, Sara, of 7 months. The only thing I've done is download the photo, and upload it here as is.

Mark got their mother's phone and "processed" this photo by himself. That's all I know. He probably knew which app to choose. I think it turned out great ;-)) Now what grandmother wouldn't say that! I just love the cool circles. I only wish the 4 year old brother were in the photo also. These are the kids I visited in Mexico last year. I wouldn't normally upload a family photo, but I was so taken with the circles that Mark chose.

PS - I'm glad Flickr allows us to add or edit the original commentary here. I'll be out this week, starting Monday, Feb 23 - 28. It's the annual Photoshop Week on creativelive . com. I watched it last year while in Mexico, and throughout the year I watch their various PS training programs. This is their annual full week of Photoshop training. If anyone is interested feel free to visit their website. It's free training while it's being broadcast. I practically do an unpaid commercial for them but it's only because I've received so much training from them and have purchased one of their courses. Other than a few comments here, I'll see you guys in March.

My 3rd 'winded portrait' ever!!!!

I'm ridiculously proud of myself. I don't think I've ever been this inspired in terms of a photographic series/idea, and the fact that I'm pulling it off to my satisfaction....wow :)

Massive credit to Brook Shaden for showing me how this can be done by someone as low-budget as myself, thanks to her CreativeLIVE workshop a few days ago!!!!

After watching Kathleen Clemons on CreativeLive yesterday, I decided to modify the image with Nik Software.

Jared Polin aka The Fro, giving a Low Light tutorial with CreativeLive in Seattle WA.

I was watching Don Gianatti workshop on table top photography at Creative live, when my 10 yr old walked into the room. There was a picture of studio lit chess pieces on the pdf I was viewing. She saw it... said 'WOW'... took out my old P&S camera... arranged her plastic chess pieces on the bed beside the window... and took a few shots. The shots were neat... but had bedroom stuff in the background. I told her how to avoid those. She arraged her chess pieces at a different spot... changed her angle and took a shot. Then she asked me if I could help her with Lightroom. She had just seen me use LR before but didn't know what it was. I explained her a few basic tools on LR... contrast, brightness etc. She played around with those and... this is what she came up with. :)

My WOW moment was when I saw my 10 year old so impressed by Don's photographs, she tried to recreate them in her own way. :)

Thank you Don! Thank you Creative Live. :)

Eye'll be Seeing You

This is just a quick snap to let all of my contacts know I will be away from flickr this weekend. Going to be focused on an online lighting workshop (http://bit.ly/zariasphoto) from Zack Arias on creativelive.com... it's free if you'd like to check it out too.

I'll catch up with your streams early next week.

Watching Brooke Shaden's CreativeLIVE workshop has really helped pull me out of my slump. I have so many images to edit, and I think I'm finally feeling strongly enough about my work to actually put the time into editing them.

This is such a cute song! I always think of my parents when I hear it :)

I have written about them before on this picture... but this is why they remind me of this song:

They had always wanted to live near the ocean.

It was a far-fetched dream, it seemed.

One day they were taking me home from soccer practice....

and a small discussion was going on in the van with us 4 young kids.

Mom brought up how neat it would be to move to Florida..

so basically right then and there they decided they wanted to move to Florida.

Within 2-3 months of this discussion, we were in Florida with no home, no AC in the van, and a small U-Haul trailing behind us.

But we were here. :)

[On a side note (I have to at least have one in every description!) I GOT MY 50mm f/1.8 LENS YESTERDAY! I am so excited! I only had a couple of minutes to try it out so far, but so far I love it!! I will have to test it some more. :)

Oh, and if y'all want some FREE photography workshops, go to CreativeLive!

I have been doing a David DuChemin workshop for two days and it is really interesting! They always have new courses and workshops, so sign up for updates!

There are two others from today that I like and so I wasn't sure which to upload!!! I might upload them tomorrow (?)]

What's something you want to do but haven't done yet? .

I've ALWAYS wanted to go to New Zealand! 😍🌅 ever since my mom told me I was almost born there I've always wanted to go there ( and also wished I was born there) but my dad decided not stay in the Navy so instead I was born in California which is pretty beautiful too so I can't complain 😉💙🌄

This was another photo I took for @jakenolenmusic new EP titled "Okay" it's seriously amazing

there is so long that i dont compose anything good but i'm absorving everything that i can from Brooke Shaden live workshop (free) www.creativelive.com/courses/fine-art-portraits-brooke-sh... made me realise that it's ok and that there is no point taking your camera if you dont know what you will be doing... a shame that today is the last day of the workshop :(

73/365 I took a small break and watched Brooke's workshop in creativeLive at it was totally awesome, I learned so much.

This is my niece and took her with me to the cemetery to go shooting.

I also went to the funeral of my friend's mother. Her mother had been battling cancer for a few years now and just last week on mother's day she passed away. It is currently a difficult time for my friend and her family with such a loss and I wanted to make an image dedicated to my friend Kirsten and her mother.

This one is for Kirsten and her Mother.

Shot for Strobist Sunday 6/6/2010 - Theme Liquid

This is my first strobist sunday entry. I had a 430 exII camera right on the table beside the glass at 1/64 power. I had a 580 exii aimed at a tablecloth behind the glass on full power. Both without modifiers; I'm kinda lazy that way sometimes :(. Triggered both using Cybersyncs.

See large on my blog.

My contacts here on flickr are all over the place, group wise, so I couldn't think of a great place to post this. That said I am really excited about attending a virtual workshop on lighting starting on Friday June 11th and wanted to make sure I told you all about it as well. It is free if you watch it live and is a part of a project Chase Jarvis is working on called Creative Live. The workshop is being taught by Zack Arias. Check it out if you are interested in that sort of thing :).

From what I understand, in addition to the hours convenient to US viewers they plan to replay it at a time convenient for Europeans as well (though I can't locate the tweet where I thought I saw that so that may not be case).

The foundation for this image was captured with the amazig Brooke Shaden during Photo Week at CreativeLIVE in Seattle, WA. The final image is heavily inspired by Brook's work, but very much my own concept and style.

I worked on this after seeing Sue's first time on CreativeLive and the first day of this current workshop. I wanted to try Cover Girl with Sarah to accentuate her tiny waste. She is a little curvy, so I thought this would be a great pose for her. I thought she had a beautiful smile, and her eyes lit up when she smiled, so I did a lot of that with her. I also utilized Sue's way of slimming in the editing process on her right side a bit. This is my favorite portrait of Sarah I took! While I still have a lot to learn, and a lot more practice, I think this was a successful pose! =)

I am visiting my daughter in Florida and she is my favorite model. She loves to have her photo taken. We hung up a blanket on a wall and I got some daylight tungsten light bulbs from K-Mart and put them in her pole lamp. Trying to remember all the lighting tips from the Roseanne Olsen Lighting course on CreativeLive--I took some portraits.

I get a thrill out of making something out of whatever I have around me. Maybe someday I will have the real thing--and then I wouldn't know what to do with it. LOL Oh yeas --the dog is Brooklyn.

My CreativeLive entry for Simona and Sue's contest for a camera and full makeup kit.

I know Sue and Simona shoot with natural light, but I'm very happy with the soft pretty light my 5ft octobox gives off.

I've already posted this. No need to comment :) This photo is for a FREE Photography Workshop with Penny De Los Santos that I have enrolled in for this weekend. She asked that we add a "food" photo to the group Penny_LIVE!

After reading the below paragraph...

I've removed my image from the group. But I'm still looking forward to the workshop :)

"By submitting photographs, illustrations, text, audio-visual works and any other copyrightable elements or other content (the “Material”), to Creative Live, Inc. (“creativeLIVE”) through flickr, You agree that beginning on the date that You submit the Material to a creativeLIVE flickr group “creativeLIVE Audience”, You hereby grant creativeLIVE and its successors a perpetual, irrevocable, worldwide, royalty-free, non-exclusive, sub-licensable, right and license to make, use, sell, sublicense, reproduce, distribute, perform, display, prepare derivative works from and otherwise exploit all such Material as if creativeLIVE were the full owner thereof, in all media, existing, or to be invented in the future, without any further compensation to You."

Lou Freeman during her CreativeLive class suggested that photographers do a selfie. Focusing is a bitch, but I did need a new one anyway ... The hand is towards camera but I did that on purpose (I have my reasons).

Strobist: Key is a Quadra "A" head in the Portalight, camera left, f/5.6. 2 silver reflectors right for fill. Shutter dragged at 1/25 for ambient control of the BG. Triggered by Skyport.
