As per my usual self inspiration struck at the last minute and I just HAD to get my hands on a prism! 🌈😂 luckily we found the ONE place in town that sells them! You would think it would be easy to get a prism to reflect on someone's face 😨 ....many many tries later we finally got it. Thanks @stevierayrosario for all your patience 😁 .
"My Lensbaby"
I recently bought a flower photograph course from CreativeLive and watched it last week. I learned so much from the instructor Kathleen Clemons. I am excited because one course and a new lens are going to dramatically change how I photograph flowers.
Kathleen photographs flowers in a magical way and uses a special lens called a Lensbaby to achieve the desired look she wants. Her photographs make it look so easy, but it is very difficult.
The lens has a bellow type structure which allows the lens to be tilted up, down, left and right. It has a selective spot of focus then everything around that focus is blurred.
I took my lens to the State Botanical Garden of Georgia yesterday to try it out. I knew there was a learning curve, but my greatest frustration came because it only has a 15-inch focusing distance. Last night I did buy a close-up filter and extension tubes, so I can get real close to the flowers. Can't wait to start this new journey….gotta long way to go!

I took this image way back when I was first starting to get back into photography. I loved it until someone told me in front of a large group of people, "Ha! She looks like an angry bride." Of course, I was extremely discouraged and never worked on it again. I came across this image by accident and decided to process it even though I took it so long ago.
I am extremely grateful that I have come to the point where comments like that won't keep me from doing what I want with my images. Criticism can be tough for artists to hear. But constructive criticism is important for growth so being to tell the difference is important.
I like this image and to me that is enough.
Whatever you do, never let the opinion of someone else stop you from doing something you love.
If you need a good kick in the pants, this article is fantastic.

2011 - Day 162. June 11, 2011
Daily Shoot - Make a photograph emphasizing a square or a grid today. (I'm hoping the honeycomb texture satisfies the grid requirement.)
We're in Day 2 of CreativeLive's Beyond Photography - Artistic Post Production with Doug Landreth. I'm trying to apply what I'm learning as we go along.
In this shot I isolated a single chive blossom in order to get a very simple background and then waited for the bee to drop into the scene. I added a honeycomb texture and then just played with hue, saturation, blending modes and opacity until I was happy with the result.

Oh hey, do you ever have those moments when you go and take a nap and where up from said nap feeling a little worse than when you had laid down? This is how this photo happened. Personally I could wake up this every day.
Just saying.
My laptop has been making some pretty scary sounds that make me uncomfortable to use it for extended periods of times. So I'm going to shuffle off, but if you need something to fill you time you really really really need to check this site out. it's called CreativeLive
Honestly this site is magic and I've learned some amazing things from it. 10/10 would always recommend. CLICK ON THAT LINK YO'!

Sooo I am in my hotel room with a pair of pears and no way to pare them.
Sooooo....
If I can't eat'm I will take a picture of them.
Ever wonder what all those "things" in menus of the things you would never think to use? That stuff. I selected the "Miniature" mode in the "effect" Dial. Shot this then the battery dies.
Here's the "The After the Battery Dies" (sounds sorta like an eMpTV show) image.
Who knew?

Image 3 of 4 of a series of landscape photographs of the setting winter sun over the ocean beach at North Cove, Washington.
As an artist, I've known myself to be rigid. I've learned to let go of anxiety if something doesn't go my way artistically, but I prefer to have every detail of what I'm doing planned down to the smallest. When I was location scouting for this image, I saw chains hanging down from a barn ceiling. I tried to work in the moment to incorporate them into this image. Originally it was going to be vines holding her up inside this space; after thinking about the meaning more deeply, the chains added a materialistic, human quality that fit so well with the series I had to use them.
This series was made to question our perception of 'home', what holds us back from moving away from what is comfortable, and how we too often embody complacency in favor of staying safe. This image particularly deals with that last point - a relaxing into our own slow demise rather than breaking free.

I have more appreciation for video production than I ever have before. The stop motion animators definitely work hard and I am guessing long hours. My body aches from being contorted on the ground under the equipment. This is so amateurish but every day I learn something new. I have decided to dedicate time to watching a CreativeLive class to learn PremierePro. Getting the dinos to move the tiles was too difficult so the words just appear...They just don't have a very large range of motion.

And so it goes, the process for one's soul to leave the body, the rock latches on to the departed and begins pulling them in to become a part of them. It's a simple, yet important production that occurs in this strange woodland.
Diggie and I went exploring down in LA again today. It was a crazy fun exploratory day, per usual it seems. This was actually at the location that Brooke had one of her Creativelive shows at.

Wow! I can't believe I am actually posting a finished product from my creativeLIVE course...it feels unreal since I've spent the last few months planning and now I have images to show for it!
A blog post with most of the images from the class, except for the "elaborate setups" which I'm saving for a bit later, as well as before/after images.

THANK YOU so much, from the bottom of my heart, for the support again. I know I've already said it, but I swear my insides are still fluttering.

Shot for Creative Live's contest for Don Giannatti's tabletop product photography class. The insight I got from that class that helped with this shot is that product photography is all about problem solving. I took every annoying reflection as a problem to solve and ended up with an image I'm quite proud of.

The truth is heavy, therefore few care to carry it. Winston Churchill
This image is inspired by Jennifer Hudson. I watched a two days online workshop on creativeLIVE in which she did many photoshoots, and I really liked her way of posing the models, and got really inspired by it. Most of her images are b&w, and I wasn't going to turn this into b&w, mostly because I don't want to copy her, but while editing I just tried it and it was so much more powerful.

Week 21
Remember last week when I told you that I have to postponed the photoshoot that I planned? Well I was finally able to do it this week!
But things didn't go flawlessly. I found a MUA. She told me she was sick but she was pretty confident that she'll be fine for saturday. On wednesday evening she even confirm! I was like woooot got it! Well not exactly...On thursday evening another mail and even before I opened it I knew that it wasn't good news!!!
So here I was desperately looking for a MUA. I finally found one (Sara) and even if the Model (Elly) was still a bit sick, we decided to do this shoot anyway...Guys I'm glad we did.
Sara did a great job on the make-up and Elly was perfect. We started with some beauty shot and then we moved to something more funny yay! Here is one of the fun shot.
I also had the opportunity to play with my AB800. Thanks Andrea for your advice! Great light for the price. I'll probably add an Einstein in the future but not now. I'm still recovering from the brokerage fess and duty, plus I got to pay taxes. Lol
I don't know if you were aware of it, but this week Don Giannatti aka Wizwow did a "Lighting Essential" workshop on Creative Live. Wow... now understand why they call him WizWow. This guy is a lighting wizard. For real! I've learned so much during those 3 days. A very informative workshop!
Last but not least, Von Wong does Europe! Ben and Erwan are going to spend one crazy month in Europe working with artists. If you want to help them you can go to the project page and contribute! I got my own package name here! Haha
Hope you guys had a great Easter time and have a nice week folks!

Semaine 21

Matt and Lydia bring a lot to a concept already, and then when you wrap them in makeup by Susan Fossa you get another level of badass power couple. A bit late for Beltane, but that moment of the wheel will be back before you know it. Channel your inner druidic ancestor, gather by the fire, and let the flames speak to you.

In contrast to most of my studio work, this was actually natural light - a beam of sunlight was intruding into the space from a high window, so we redirected it with a gold reflector to create the firelight look.
A special shout out to Renee Robyn, who I've learned from since early in my compositing days from CreativeLive, YouTube, and her Patreon. Her smoke and fire packs feature in this piece, but it's her inspiration and teaching that is far more impactful for what I do today.

I did something similar to this back in 2010, but I was sitting down in my shot.
This looks simple, but it took me quite a bit of time to edit since I had to get her body parts from different photos. Her dress bunches up when she raises her hands so we had to work around that - she could only lift one hand at a time. Then in the shot where she liked her facial expression, she didn't like her feet, so I had to change that too. I even had to get her pigtails from different shots and draw some of her hair on because they looked a bit flat in some of the photos.
On a positive note, I was able to catch a free stream of Brooke Shaden's "Fine Art Portraits" workshop for creativeLIVE the other day and I applied some of the new techniques I learned editing this photo. I wasn't able to watch the entire thing because it was getting late here in the Philippines, but I managed to catch about an hour and a half of it. And in that short amount of time I learned a lot! I wish I was able to watch the whole thing, but I had to get up early the next day for work.
Her description:

Me as a puppet this week!
Thanks a lot to my sister for taking my picture and editing it!

It's been quite a while since I did any real macro work, but was inspired yesterday by a course on CreativeLive and a hang out session with my neighbor. Here is the result.
Two matched umbrellas over and under the lens. You can change the shape and location of the bottom umbrella by bringing it lower, but I have always liked the catchlight specular in the eyes. In this shot the umbrellas are very close, but it can also be a very cool source if there are four umbrellas and you are 3X the diameter of the umbrellas away from the subject... more like a wall of light at that point. No wrap at all, nearly a ringlight but without that boring, flat ringlight look.
This was shot on the second day of my creativeLIVE show a couple of weekends ago. Minimal photoshop (this kind of light wipes out any and all facial anomalies.

This series came out so well. This one reminds me of a person's ribs dancing in a dream. It is a smoke photo that I inverted to give the white background.

I used Landreth's texture files: Cathode Smoke, Summer Rose (changed the hue and lowered saturation), and Malibu Umber.

Dusted off this photo from a trip to Anza Borrego and the Salton Sea for the CreativeLIVE contest.
Our group found this abandoned house that looked like it was ready to fall down, so naturally we went straight inside and began photographing! The girl in this photo is my good friend Angela who is an actress and loves to be in front of the camera.
Thank you CreativeLIVE team and Lindsay Adler for this contest! Even if I don't place, I know have this finished photography that I really love!

Tried a panorama after such a long time! =) Went to photograph 3 teen boys today and took this while coming back. I have no experience in landscape photography what so ever, but John Greengo's( at creativelive.com) last class pushed me to try it.
I know I should have fixed the tilted tower, but it gave a feel of a fisheye lens - so I decided against it. =)
oh and HUGE news!! :D I've ordered and paid for my 5d Mark II, would get it by July InshaAllah! :)

Preparing for my creativeLIVE show on Table Top Photography this coming weekend, I made this shot in the studio using a Profoto 300 Compact in a 28" round softbox and two speedlights with grids. Profoto was fired with wireless triggers and the speedlights are both on optical.
Wanna know how to do this with simple tools? Watch www.creativelive.com this weekend (June 22, 23, 24). It's free all three days - all day long.
