A shiner in this case is a small, silvery bait fish. When this streamer is in the water the feathers get thinner and the resemblance to a minnow is more apparent. I haven't made one of these in two decades. I pulled this out of the tackle box I keep my fly tying gear in. It is at least 20 years old and might have been used once and binned in favor of something else. The image is just under 75mm across.
