An impressive mural in El Barrio, East Harlem. Originally created in 1999 by the Ricanstruction Network and the Puerto Rico Collective and restored in 2011. The mural is composed of portraits of Pedro Albizu Campos and Che Guevara.

The name "Dos Alas" (Two Wings) is a reference to an 1893 poem written by Lola Rodriguez de Tio "Cuba and Puerto Rico are two wings of the same bird". The quote appears on the mural.

Canton Railroad SW1500 1501 was pulling across Boston Street on an overcast Monday morning. The traffic jam created by this move during the rush hour was quite lengthy and chaotic.

It was also quite amusing to watch.

Taken on a bright and sunny winter's day at Bolton Abbey

Hello everyone! I hope you are all having a great start to your weekend & an amazing last day of 2022! Today I will be sharing the third set of photos of an interior design project that we have recently completed. For this project, we were commissioned to design the entire interior of the home, as well as the patios and balconies. Any landscaping details that you see in this and upcoming photos of this project, have been completed by the landscapers that are employed by the community that our client lives in.

In the first photo, you are getting a look at what may be my favourite room of this project, the kitchen! For this space, we created a ton of custom elements, which really help distinguish this kitchen from all the others that have been installed in this model of home. To start, we created a custom mesh wooden surround, which helps enclose all cabinetry and appliances, such as the wine fridges on the left hand side of the photo. We’ve also created a custom glass door fridge, along with custom glass door cabinetry on each side of the range, in a beautiful tinted black finish. These details help break up the heavy usage of wood and stones in this space, providing a nice contrast of a more delicate material.

In the second photo, you are getting a peak into the breakfast area, which is adjacent to the kitchen. This is a much more intimate space than the dining room, which I showcased in my previous post, due to the space being smaller overall and having a lesser seating capacity. As you can see, we stuck with our client's directive, using lots of beige, cream and white tones, with graphite and black accents to provide a grounding effect.

As always, the team & I thank you so much for following us along our design journey & supporting The Design Firm! You support is what keeps us going <3

Lastly, I always recommend viewing my photos in full screen mode when able! This allows you to see the true depth and detail of the spaces that my colleagues and I create for our clients.

A real mish-mash of stuff used here: four or five Microsoft Word documents with various fonts (Bahnschrift SemiLight SemiConde, ROG FONTS to name two), cropped, resized and colour-filled in Photoshop, everything then stuck into Photomatix Pro, tonemapped and finally combined with previously unused DABC #600, final flourishes back at the ol' PS lab using the Nik Collection add-on. Phew!

Spilling out into the night, the air slapping at their sweaty and flushed faces, the SeeBee defensive line - the one with the core, a Cap and a whole bunch of hooligans masquerading under the banner of Dan, variations one through eight – celebrated with a hoot, three hollers and a whole six-pack of gang-gum stylings designed to set the world on fire. The sheer levity brought about by these loveable, disgusting creatures of the gong, reeked of disillusion, straight-up bravado and all the squeaky, tin monkeys money could buy. “Don’t let the luster blind you,” pointed out one of the on-lookers, digging feverishly at the tapioca ice-cream bowl before her, “these cats can jam flat a back sass of the most gruesome kind, “again stabbing her parfait spoon deeper, “and all before eight on a Sunday.” The motor was left running. The dimes fell to the floor. The shoe shine boy folded his tent, bid a tra-la and sauntered down the alleyway, oblivious to all the temptations within.

Hundreds of gorse fires have created havoc across the island of Ireland for the better part of a month. Gorse is a wildflower that grows abundantly all over the country. It is native to Ireland and is quite invasive. The amount of gorse coupled with extremely dry conditions create perfect conditions for wildfires to start. Since Monday 1st May 2017 – 8th May 2017 Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service (NIFRS) has attended 511 gorse fires of which 466 were started deliberately.

Most of the 30 or so ongoing fires are around the outside portion of the island are in Roscommon and Sligo. The most significant fire is in Cloosh Valley, Galway, which has burned 3,500 hectares (8648 acres) of forest and bog land. The 4,000 hectare (9884 acre) forest is one of the largest in Ireland. Firefighters are battling to bring it under control after poor conditions allowed the fire to increase in intensity.
