I believe this to be an Apheloria virginiensis corrugata. A giant cyanide secreting millipede.

This crawler was in my garden.

Liked the color in this lightning shot. Not a lot of lightning in this storm, but did manage to catch one decent shot.

This is what we saw many times at the back of a large thunderstorm cluster over northeast Nebraska.

Anvil crawler lightning: a lightning discharge occurring within the anvil of a thunderstorm. It is characterized by one or more channels that appear to crawl along the underside of the anvil.

I normally want as much detail as possible with my snails, especially the eyes. But this time I wanted to have most of the snail out of focus, with only the eyes in focus. Using my Raynox DCR-250 attachment on the front of my macro lens allowed me to get up very close to the snail giving a very shallow dof so I hoped to achieve my desired effect. But as you can see, this didn't work as I had originally intended - even with the Raynox, I had to use f5.6 to make sure the snail shell and reflection were not sharp, but with only the eyes in focus the image really was too soft as the eyes project out in front. But this shot, focused on the 'face' with its antennae, gave very nice details and also provided a pleasing reflection.

For Macro Mondays theme 'Reflection'.

No snails were harmed in the making of this photograph.

I've started calling marsh wrens, "sprinkler-birds," because they sound like lawn-sprinklers.

Most of the time, I hear that sprinkler sound but can't actually see the bird. I'm sure they see me though.

Creativity "Unlocked"

It has been very long since my last post, life gets busy and other things have priority. But that's just half of the truth. Sometimes certain things that are happening may affect you in a way that you no longer have motivation to go out a shoot. Maybe you're going through a creativity slump. No matter what the case may be, at times it can be difficult to feel inspired and do what you love the most. I am hoping that I will slowly get back to it cause capturing moments and sharing them has been a pleasure for me. This is a photo from my last photowalk around Boston. I had to spend a night there to attend a training so the evening ocean breeze dragged me out of my hotel room and helped me get some of my inspiration back.
