My husband keeps asking me if I've processed my Florida bird shots. I reluctantly say no. My problem is I like to go out and take more shots. And when I get home I need to process these recent shots. And sometimes I don't even get through all of them, especially if I can't easily ID the bird.

So I promised myself that bit by bit, I'll post my Florida shots.

EARLY DAYS

A primal cry tore the silence of dawn. Powerful, chilling and strange at the same time. Its echo was heard far away on the immense lake which bathed a high volcanic plateau.

Strange, because this cry evoked neither fear nor pain. Nor did it sound like the cries of satisfaction that came with victory, domination - a common occurrence in these places of constant struggle for survival. Not far away, a group of Homo sapiens stood facing the rising sun, motionless, immersed in deep fascination at the spectacle before them. These were the first days, the dawn of humanity.

If an anthropologist had been able to witness this scene, he would have written that it was, there on the shore of this lake, that fascination and wonder were born - those deep emotions which lead the human imagination to want to understand the origin and significance of the phenomena it encounters. Already, these homo sapiens understood that this invisible thing that they breathed (air) and that the water they drank was vital to their survival. Other questions, just as vital for beings who do not depend on an artificial environment for their survival, urged their minds ...

___________

150,000 years later, on the path of evolution and progress, the highly respected French oceanic explorer, Jacques-Yves Cousteau, observed, like the scientific community: “Water and air, the two essential fluids on which all life depends, have become global garbage cans. ”

____________

A powerful cry of concern from a distant past echoed across the shores of the lake.

At the end of the day I went to the lake of Sanabria, there were no lights, except for the Jacques Cousteau tourist boat and the light of some car or some isolated building, the lake was wrapped in semi-darkness and the result was a union of sky and water. I hope you like it.

kind of a whimsical scene i made here. i didn't really have anything in mind at the time...that's not usual o.O

this is the area that is brighter then 1000 facelights...so you will need to be aware of that or you might go blind. i like to meander about the area with zDoomed here but zSunrise or zSunset is ok.

I've always admired the beauty and grace of the sadly now-endangered Whale Shark, and growing up remember watching diving films of curious diving teams encountering them in the wild and hitching a ride. Its distinctive markings still divide the scientific community however, so much is still a mystery.

Jacques-Yves Cousteau appointed Palmarola as "The most Beautiful Island in the Mediterranean Sea"

Palmarola is a craggy, mostly uninhabited island in the Tyrrhenian Sea off the west coast of Italy. It is the second largest of the Pontine Islands and located about 10 kilometres (6.2 mi) west from Ponza.

Palmarola has an extremely rocky coast dotted with natural grottos, bays, cliffs, and crags. The island is primarily a nature reserve, but there are a handful of ports where boats can land and several restaurants that cater to tourists during the summer season. A few small beaches exist.

Excerpt from the mural:

Operation Genesis: The Final Commission

On July 14, 1997 the former Canadian Navy Vessel HMCS Saskatchewan (DDE-262) began her new career as an artificial reef east of Nanaimo, off Snake Island. Project Reef was initiated by the Nanaimo Dive Association, the Artificial Reef Society of British Columbia, the Cousteau Society and the Citizens of Nanaimo. Saskatchewan, a 366-foot, 2800-ton Destroyer Escort, was launched February 1, 1961 in Victoria and was commissioned February 18, 1963. In her career she sailed 740,000 nautical miles, equivalent to 21 trips around the world, and fired not a single shot in anger.

In the words of Captain Jacques-Yves Cousteau “this (project) will allow this noble vessel to not only continue in service, in her new career as an artificial reef, but provide an honorable legacy for future generations.

Where the research continues

In the early 1980s, the eminent French scientist and film-maker ,

Captain Jacques-Yves Cousteau, brought into being Alcyone as the Cousteau Society’s expedition ship. She travelled the oceans gathering data and conducting many important studies.

Her Turbo-sail rig was innovative and still attracts attention; here people wait to board her to see her computer controlled handling and systems. Technology has moved on now - but she was well ahead of her time!
