The male Cardinal will often feed the female as a symbolic jester of his commitment to her during mating season.

Great Blue Herons doing their courtship dance. I have never seen them so elegant. At first I thought they were going to fight but instead they greeted each other with wings sweeping the water, ruffled feathers and synchronized walking- heads high. Just amazing to watch.

Courtship display, Abberton reservoir.

I know its not a unique shot but a first for me, pure delight.

I watched these 2 doves courting for quite a while. They were amazing with their actions. All the birds around me are in courting mode :)

Hooded Merganser drake extends his neck and fluffs his neck and crest feather to impress his future mate.

Image taken at Switherland Reservoir in Charnwood. I had never witnessed the Male Mandarin Courtship Display before and it was beautiful to see, the male extends his head up and down continuously while making a very soft call to his mate. Unfortunately the Female showed no interest at all in the Males attempt's to woo her.

Aulacorhynchus albivitta

(Southern Emerald toucanet / Tucancito Esmeralda)

The male (left) collected the berry in his beak and then presented it to the female (right) who has just received the present.

Like other toucans, the Southern Emerald Toucanet is brightly marked and has a large bill. The adult is 30–35 cm (12–14 in) long. The sexes are alike in appearance, although the female generally is smaller and slightly shorter-billed.

The Emerald Toucanet is a generally common in humid forest and woodland, mainly at higher elevations.

This is 3rd courtship photograph from earlier this year when I got extremely lucky to observe and photograph Bald Eagles Courtship for the first time, Courtship is a time to develop and strengthen the pair bond, or form a new one. Scientists have observed some mating behaviors on wintering grounds, but have also seen males and females start courting in breeding areas.

Bald eagle pairs engage in a number of courtship rituals as they build their bond. The most famous and recognizable of these rituals is the "cartwheel courtship flight," this involves pair of eagles which will fly up high, lock talons and then get into a cartwheel spin as they fall toward the ground. This is nothing short of a visual delight, seeing it was amazing and being able to take few shots to share is a bonus.

From James A. Kushlan (2011):

Of all heron courtship and breeding behaviors the Stretch is the most typical. Some form is used by most species. It is a primary male advertising display and used also between the pair. The Stretch has been observed in most herons so far studied. Typically it consists of the heron lifting its head and closed bill towards the vertical. At the peak, a call may be given; in the Great Blue Heron it is a moan or howl. As the head is brought down the legs are usually flexed, and in some species a bill snap is given. The crest and the plumage of the lower neck and scapulars are usually erected. This is a very conspicuous display, one that accentuates a heron's specialized plumes and the bright soft-parts colors of the head and bill.

From SR - Apparently this heron was successful as I saw at least two heads sticking up in the nest this past Sunday.

During the courtship, each bird will dive and resurface carrying a piece of foliage which they will then 'present' to their mate.

A rare sighting is the exquisitely graceful courtship dance of cranes. It did not last long, but I lucky to glimpse a few moves.

Male chickadees feed females for courting, bonding, practice feeding chicks, or maybe just to keep mama happy.
