Given my interests in matter and the use of a slow-shutter speed I created a variety of edits with the title 'State Of Matter'. Fire reflects gas and an object 'changing state'. This is why I used fire in my photo shoots as it represents the brief appropriately whilst including the formal elements colour and shape.
Over 20 layers of paint and detail, covered by thick white paint, leaving two main qualities behind. The paint has been moulded and sculpted to form energy and to reveal history. A lot of my personal emotion went into this painting and the white paint covers this, signifying closure.

Below is a study of Gerald Scarfe's illustration as part of Pink Floyd's The Wall. I chose to paint this in inks as they are much more vibrant in colour compared to normal watercolours, and they also allowed me to use a less time-consuming and looser technique to recreate the effect similar to the original.
